Sealing up/waterproofing hard case LiPo batteries.

is it needed/how do you prefer to do it?

3 of my RCs that I run off of LiPos are fully waterproof, and quite often are used as such. the only thing I worry about is the batteries. is it the end of the world to get water in the hard case? of course I don't let the water stay in there. as soon as the run is over, I make sure to drain any water out. should I be spraying a water displacement agent inside the case to really flush them out, or is draining sufficient? or should I go all of the way and try to completely seal up the case?

Most just plasti derp them. I just stick with NiMh for that reason in my trail rig. Just Yahoo it and im sure you will find some info on it.

I still have NiMh in my crawler, but run lipo in all of the higher speed, brushless ones. I was thinking some marine grade silicone would work best. I don't know if plastidip has the toughness to span the larger gaps where the wires come out of the case. or if it would hold up to their movement. I was also thinking about drilling holes in the hard case, so that when they do get dunked, the water doesn't sit in there for the rest of the run. I've never seen anyone do that before though, which is why I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing.

thanks for the link. makes me feel much better.

I think I may take the case apart, punch some drain holes in it, dielectric grease on the internal connections, put it all back together, and then just make sure they drain and dry after every run. then I can pop them open every once in a while to clean off any corrosion, and regrease everything.
