So I am going to change my transmission fluid here in the next couple days or so and was wondering if it is just like the front/rear diff and tranfer case where you just pull out the fill plug, then the drain plug then fill it back up or if there was more to it. Any ideas? Thanks
PS- it's an 03 with a MANUAL transmission

In a word, yes. The process mirrors what you do for the differentials and the transfer case. Don't forget to replace your crush washers.

I'm just curious... What would happen if I didn't change the crush washers?
    Thanks

Flip the gasket and use a torque wrench. Probably fine but why risk it.

Potential for leaks. They are CHEAP insurance.

the manual has the amount of fluid you need in the specs section so you know how much to buy. i wouldn't bother with the crush washer replacement if its inconvenient for you. the plugs will keep oil from leaking with only a few threads engaged, so having it tight with the same washer is more than adequate.

i also wouldn't worry about torquing it down to something specific. just hand tight. it isn't critical to meet a torque rating for these plugs like you would for a lower ball joint.

    None
I just did this job 2 nights ago.

Valvoline 75w-90. 7 bux a quart. Non-synthetic for me because I flush every 2 years, no matter what. Fresh oil trumps fancy oil.

I have the same tranny. Mine took 2.7qts. The manual said 2.3. IDK why.

    Just drain and refill.

So I changed my fluid today and I open the fill plug and tons of fluid started pouring out. Is that normal?? Anyway, there was over 3 quarts that drained but I got the 2.3quarts in (like the manual said) until it flowed out of the fill plug. Does that sound like I did it right?

Not normal, in my experience. Sounds like it was previously over-filled.

Yes - the process you used sounds correct.
