Im guessing its a ruler with a wheel on the one side and a pen on the other? which can be moved to mark what is needed :)

Gramps, I'm told that you might be the guy to point me in the right direction to drill my frame for the bolt on sliders. Can you give me an idea of the best way to do it? What type of step bit? What lubricant? Should I use a jack to hold the drill in place?

    Michelin man, any input?

I recommend using carbide bits, an actual cutting oil, going from a small bit up to what you need. But I dont have a clue on how to hold the drill.
I'm use to drilling metals all the time at school, I just get to use a drill press.

Holy crap. My Slee Sliders were one of the first things I installed on my truck in 2007. They're design utilized factory holes in the frame and offered additional holes that could be drilled if you wanted to. I drilled the additional holes back then with a standard bit, dry, and gave myself a sore arm once completed.

If you have access to a good steel Unibit or want to buy one they will save a ton of time as they tear through our frame steel quickly. I personally have never used lube on the bits but I hear it is a good thing to prolong bit life. Don't really have any suggestions for that.

Not sure I am following on the jack thing for the Drill you using some sort of 2 ton mining drill or something? :D

Couldn't we just put his truck on the drill press? :p

    Should get it done.

He could buy a magnetic drill press that would work, but I bet one costs more then the sliders.

At some point I'm going to get sliders, but I don't know if I want bolt on or weld on. Or who I should even get them from.

You want sliders sooner than later. Probably the biggest confidence booster I got for when I wheel. BAMF seems to make great ones. I made my own. Not a whole lot cheaper but they are unique, beefy and I wanted some that doubled as steps for my wife and kiddos when they get a bit bigger. Lost some clearance doing it like that but excellent protection. Mine cover from wheel well to wheel well, more than any other I have seen. Overkill perhaps, but whatever.

HA HA HA, Gramps i should paste his PM to me about the drill being held up by a jack because it took so long to drill, like hours. Thats why i pointed him to you and told him it shouldnt take that long at all using a step bit but didnt know the carbide part :)

    EDIT: Sorry Sam had to

"I've also heard the people use a jack to support the drill because it can take a couple of hours."

i giggled a little visualizing someone rigging a jack to drill the frame and hold the drill up and put forward pressure on the spot being drilled.

Chris and I drilled my Frame on my 07 for sliders. He had a bad ass bit that went through the frame pretty easily, I mean you had to put the man hand behind it but I don't remember it being that bad.

I'm headed up to do some back country exploring. Might romp in a ways with my runner before packing in. We will see though I don't mind the walk.
