Doesn't market share like that imply it's time for a global Tacoma/Hilux?

I think GMs biggest mistake is now having their American twins AND an international Colorado that they openly brag is a different truck. Seems like all the development cost would have been better applied to single model...you know like Ford's Ranger...oh wait those assholes refuse to sell it in North America.

Both the Ranger and the Amorak tell Toyota they could tone down the "masculinity" of the Tacoma and give the Hilux less curves and probably have a global winner on their hands. I hope they realize that and are acting accordingly.

I'd love to see what kind of magic a United States/Thailand design team could come up with. I think we might all end up very happy with the final product.

I love stuff like this. In the information age, where we learn everything early (kudos to Toyota for keeping the FT1 under wraps...so maybe not everything), but...

    1) design leaks and no mention of any unveiling. Everyone knew the new Tundra was going to be unveiled in Chicago last year during the NAIAS.

    2) no word on the factory being updated, and this is a factory with a single line for both the Taco and Tundra. There's been talk about the line not keeping up with Tundra demand so Toyota might need a long-term (longer to implement plan) in place to accommodate the new Taco.

    3) What constitutes "new?" The new Tundra was the same frame (I believe) and the same powertrains. If Toyota is gonna slap on some new panels I'll wait for a real 3rd gen especially if the 4runner refresh is any indicator where the "new 2015" taco is headed.

The market could increase because of improved drivetrains. Even Toyota upsales the Tundra to people who walk into the dealership wanting a Taco because of not so different MPG and rebates.

An improved midsizers with proper/ proportional MPG improvements could easily, imho, improve marketshare.

My father-in-law will only own GM, why I don't know. He just hates every other brand of vehicle besides Toyota, but with that said he'd rather have a GM. I have seen this man go through so much shit with the past 3 GM trucks he's had because of the aftermarket parts. Those vehicles hate aftermarket parts for some reason. Might have just been him I dunno. Seems like bad juju to me though.

On a side note. I think the new 2015 Canyon looks fuggly as FUCK!!!! My own opinion though.

I say he should spit on the Toyota and by the Canyon.

I owned one new GM vehicle in my lifetime, bought in 1983. A year and a half later I traded it in and have never owned another GM product. That vehicle left such a bad taste that I haven't even contemplated another of their products. And I can also tell you they do not stand behind their products. But I'm not so sure that Toyota does either.

The only good thing about this is that Toyota will eventually redesign to counter. I think its funny that so many people are worried about it. It would seem a better strategy to wait and see what the competition comes up with first then counter it, rather than redesign only to have someone else build with better specs.

That being said, I would never pay that amount for a domestic truck. The last canyon that was offered was on the worst vehicles to buy list for reliability. Chevy does not have a good rep for building superior products. I'm not paying that much only to have problem after problem. Toyota overall has been consistently offering solid products. They've had a few problems, but nothing compared to the domestics.

What is THAT supposed to mean? Hahaha. If memory serves me correctly, All of the factory bearings for GM trucks are AC Delco, not Koyo/Timken or Moog/National. In all of the truck bearings I have replaced at GM, I don't recall anything else. I know the replacement ones were all in AC Delco boxes.

I do not like how the new Canyon looks. Looks too refined and polished with all the chrome, low ground clearance, etc. A truck(especially a midsize) should look rougher and more raw(not meaning low quality and cheap materials).

Between the pic of the canyon and your sig at a glance they look damn near the same.....

That I looked at the image of the GMC canyon then scrolled past your sig pic and for a hot minute they looked like the same thing. At a closer glance the fog light bezels are similar, arch on the rear windows, fender flares both bubble, large front end, makes me want to puke. GM has done a good job of trying to make a replica of a taco.

I see. I was wondering because I didn't make any comments about the looks.

Of the GM twins, I prefer the Colorado. There's just something insincere about a smaller truck that needs a front end that could serve as a bulldozer. In general, I think the perceived idea that flat wind fighting designs are masculine is false, but I'm clearly wrong given the Canyon, the redesigned Tundra, and the new F150. Those 3 are enough proof to me that the old jokes about overcompensation still ring true.

True to that. My new v8 f150 gets better mpg than the yota ever did.

I know guys are bashing the canyon or whatever. The engines may crap out before a yota's. But the yota will sure as hell rust away before anything else

I don't think its fair to judge a new truck offering from GM based on all these stories about "I had a 19XX Chevy whatever and it was a piece of junk." I can remember when Audi made bad cars and now they make very fine ones. I have personally owned several GM cars in my lifetime and had no real problems with any of them. My business partner just sold his Suburban with 153,000 miles and it never gave him major problems.

Bottom line is that all trucks have issues. I will buy what I like and suits my needs. I will not give a second thought as to whether or not it will last for 200,000 miles because I don't usually keep my vehicles that long anyway.

As of right now unless Toyota announces something regarding a new Tacoma and I can see pictures before the new Canyon hits the sales floor this fall I will be driving the GMC.

Should I even bother bringing Ford,s full size into the picture ?
Seems they are offering a new alluminum body on the F150,s . I can see the dents and salt corrosion from here .
There is a reason why airports do not use salt on runways . Salt corrodes alluminum aircraft faster than anything made of metal .

this comment reminds me of all the new WRX hate, everyone claims it looks like something else.

Lets face it , this day in age all trucks are styled the same and look similar .

Look at the new tundra, ram and F150. All have the same ugly bulky chrome accessorys and huge front grills .

^^ Lol I totally agree with this guy, if you dont like your toyota then try something else. Grass always seems greener, but it defiantly wont be with a GM vehicle unless your good friends with a service manager
