I know no one cares about the Ford but it actually surprised me. Filled up the V8 for the first time today, so far it's tracking at 18 MPG  I couldn't believe it, I redid the calculation again just to be sure. Turns out the dash read out is dead on. 36 gallon tank, went 194 miles and was barely under 3/4 of a tank. It's definitely built for long range.

From what I have read, all the full size rigs are right in that range as long as you don't drive like a complete ass hat.

The Ford V8 was only even rated at 14 city and 19 highway (and I never expect to get the mileage shown on the sticker but maybe with the new ratings it's actually accurate). I did some research and there seemed to be a LOT of people getting better than the sticker which is what made me the consider the 5.0L.

I don't think the Tundra and Titan are there yet, which is very largely why I didn't even consider them (there were lots of reasons why I didn't consider a Titan, but that was a big one for the Tundra). The Ecotech from Chevy is pretty decent, that one is rated higher than the Ecoboost in the MPG department. Haven't heard anything about Dodge, didn't consider them either. They're nice but I still don't trust them.

Not bad, not bad at all. How much did you use Ol' Lead on the pedal?

I've been using the skinny pedal very sparingly but I have given it the beans to see what she'll do :) I'm also not driving the highway either. That's 18 MPG mixed driving commuting in and out of Boston.

Some of the reviews on the two Eco motors make me question them. I def question the mpg they claim. I don't think the turbo motor will be reliable if you use it to tow often. There's some videos showing those turbos with some serious heat. The tundra mileage gets killed by stop and go. Denis, how's yours doing for mpg?

Hey there, looking for some hive input. So, my GF has been recently convinced :)D) that she should probably get a new vehicle with the big increase in daily mileage she will be seeing shortly. Currently has an 02 Rav4 manual, engine runs pretty good yet but is extremely crusty underneath being northern VT and all. I cringe every time I have to work on it and anything that goes or needs help any more is / would be a major pain. A new vehicle, fresh start, and all the FF I can possibly hose it with. Same path I took actually. Had my Gen1 taco for 10 years.

With that, she said this morning she's considering a '14 Subaru Forester. Thought she'd go for another Rav but would like to stick with a manual thankfully. I haven't ever really followed Subarus that closely beyond knowing the generalities about them. The spec's look decent enough and seem priced ok for what you get. We need the 4w/allw drive. What I'm interested in though is any issues or thoughts that come mind that would cause you to hesitate a purchase. I am just getting started looking into quirks, problems, etc. and hoped for some input around here. Yeeaaa, more forums to plow through...

Anything major that comes to mind to watch out for or want to really consider before getting our minds set on this? Would like to make a good decision again for keeping it the next decade, since the Rav worked out OK. Any flames?????

    Thanks
    Arc'

That was mean, to get him all excited and then let him down.
    I like it.

36 gallons? Holy Shite. Don't ever let that sucker run dry, or filling it will make you weep. Glad you're averaging decent mileage, but yowzas...
You'll have to keep us posted on how using 4x4 impacts your mileage.
Are you planning on a rubber upgrade, or are you going to stick with the stock slicks until they're even slicker?

    Subarus in a word:
Head gaskets (wait, that's two words...)
Not sure about the new ones, but the old 2.5's were famous for toasted heads and the subsequent overheating that followed them. We did a LOT of head gaskets at the shops I've worked at.
Their AWD system is great, and their bells and whistles work reliably. And their engines are pretty dead reliable until you hit 100k. But after that it seems like they start munching on their own engines just for shits and giggles.
    Just my 1/2 Nickel.

Mike that's pretty decent mileage for a v8. My '11 xtra cab v6 Ford work truck averaged about 17-18.

I've heard all but the STI are good for this. Probably still happens, just takes longer. I suppose if I were to get s Subaru, I'd find a Outback with the H6 if they still come with that engine.

My dad has the new Chevy Ecotec 5.3 in a newer Tahoe and is averaging about 18 MPG so far. We'll see how long it lasts, it's only at 30k miles so far.
I know, it's a freaking massive tank. It was only down to 3/4 of a tank and it cost me $40 to fill it  That will be nice on longer trips though, especially when I visit family in NY. With the Tacoma, I used to have to stop on the way out in western MA to fill up so I'd have enough to make it back into MA before refueling again (gas in NY is a lot more expensive). This way, I won't have to fill up as often :)

I'm going to stick with the stock rubber for a while. I actually really like the tires that came on the truck. It has the Michelin AT2s. They're actually sort of loud for a Michelin tire but they look nice and seem to have great grip on wet and dry pavement. I can't wait to get them in the snow and see what they can do. These tires are more aggressive than the stock Bridgestone I had on the Tacoma so I'll stick with them as long as I can.
I hear ya, I was shocked! I hope it keeps up and improves in the summer. I plan on adding a cap also, hopefully it helps the highway MPG's a bit, it did on the Tacoma.

I think they are still making that H6. 3.6 liters now, I'm pretty sure.
Personally, if I was looking to get a Subaru right now, it'd totaly be the BRZ :D

If you go NEW then I see no problems. A couple of friends went "Sub'y" after trading in their J**ps and enjoy them...one did have motor issues but it was fully covered under warranty and he recently purchased his 3rd one....

If you look at "ski country" parking lots and see them take up 1/3-1/2 the spaces that is usually a good barometer also...

Only BAD I have heard is DEALER's... they seem to be as different as Toyotas are...either excellent or complete a$$'$

    Good luck "hunting";)
