Bilstein 5100s at 1.75!

thanks guy.. right now i have it at .85 thinking about going higher to 1.75

 

So with the front shocks set at .85 or 1inch. what size tires do you guy recommend ????
would 1.5 add a leaf work we'll with that set up

 

You should go 265/70/17 or 265/75/16 depending on your wheel size. That's a 31.6 inch tire. I personally wouldn't get an aal with the .85 setting

Need some advice -

On my '13 DCSB, I'm about to install Bilstein 5100's all the way around, plus a 1.5" Toytec AAL for the rear (my truck came with the 4 leaf TSB set-up on it). Should I set the front Bilstein's to 1.75 or 2.50? I'm good with the truck sitting level, but I want to avoid any scenarios of sitting nose high (don't care for the bro lean look). I'm even ok if I end up maintaining the factory rake, with the front sitting slightly lower than the rear.

What do you guys think, 1.75 or 2.50??

 

I just put 5100's on all four corners, fronts at 1.75 (on stock SR5 coils) and a Wheelers 1.5 in the back (removed the overload) and this is how it turned out:

Thanks Sevkev. That definitely helps. It's good to see another rig with the setup I'm looking to go for to give some perspective. Few questions for you if you don't mind:

1. What size wheels / tires are you running in that pic? Once the lift is done, my plan is to keep stock wheels, but upgrade to some 265/75/R16 BFG A/T's.

2. What was the reasoning behind removing the overload leaf? The AAL I'm looking at from Toytec states that it will work with the TSB overload leaf, so I was planning on leaving it in. Just curious if I'm setting myself up for problems.

3. Ever have any regrets not putting the fronts to the 2.50 setting? After looking at your set-up I'm leaning more and more towards the 1.75 setting. I like the way that looks.

1. Stock 16" wheels with Cooper ATP 265/76.

2. I think my truck (2013) came with the 3 leaf+overload from the factory. No TSB has been performed. After some correspondences with Wheeler's regarding the ability of the 5100's to accommodate anything more than the 0-2" lift range, I decided that keeping the rear lift to less than 2" would be a good idea. Wheeler's said that going over 2" would be pushing it with the 0-2" 5100s. After reading tons of threads on here it looks like some folks leave the overload in without any apparent issues. My primary goal was to improve the ride quality and accommodate loads, not necessarily going for a lift for clearance or aesthetics. I'm going to keep track of the height of the rear, and if over time it starts to sag, I might put the overload back in.

3. I've only had the setup for a week, so I can't find anything wrong with the 1.75 setting. I really didn't want to open a can of worms with putting it to 2.5 and potentially needing UCA/LCA or compromising the longevity of other components. that might not be as much of an issue with a prerunner though.

 

after lots of help from everyone, and a few of the guys tellin me that with only 53,000 on my truck i decided to hold of on the bilstiens and just do the 2" leveling kit. new rims and tires set me back for a lil while. but heres how she sits now

 

I've just been where you are. I just had Billie's put on all the way around, with the 1.75 setting up front and the 1.5 Icon progressive AAL leaf pack in the rear. I also was very nervous about taking the overload out. I still have about .75 of rake, and I just towed with it for the first time this week. I pulled my 600 lb. quad, on a trailer that weighs about 600 lbs., for a total of 1200 lbs. I didn't figure the math on what the actual tongue weight is though. Anyway, the truck didn't squat any more than factory. And the ride was sooooo much better. With the amount of squat that was on the truck, I wouldn't have been on the overload had it been in anyway. I don't ever plan on towing much more than this, but I feel much better now knowing that I can haul my stuff without any issues. I wouldn't sweat the overload. Get the Icon AAL pack, you won't be disappointed. If in the future it starts to bro lean on you, then you can put the overload back in.


Also, I got much more than 1.75 of lift with the billies at that setting. I'm still at about 2" of lift, after a month. I still think that Bilstein had V6's in mind when they designed the heights for these shocks. I would think that the 4 banger is a little lighter up front, hence more lift.

 

Gonna bump this thread. I have a '08 access cab 2.7 I4. I plan on using the stock coils with the 5100s set at 1.75. I have aftermarket leaf springs but there basically the same as OEM non TSB. I wanna keep the rear a little high and was wondering if I need a 1.5in AAL or a 2in AAL? Sorry in advance if this question has already been answered. Trying to decide before I purchase.

Installed Billies front set at 1.75 and the back with ICON 3 leaf pack add-on at 1.5 It rides good.

 

1.5" aal will level it, 2" aal will give you rake, ~1" higher in rear or so.
I did the 2" aal, cuz I knew I was going to eventually get the OME springs for 3-3.5" lift up front, which pretty much leveled with the rear. I now want to get the dakar leaf pack, one day

1.5 AAL from Icon, or something similar. You won't have any issues, and you'll end up with .75-1.25 inches of rake.

The never ending thread.... Have a 13 DCSB SR5 with 4 leaf from factory. I have carried a couple 1000lb loads in the bed and probably sagged my pack as the rear is only 1 inch higher than the front. IM going to do 5100s all the way around with front set at 1.75 on stock springs. Im also going to go with a wheelers 1.5 AAL for the rear. Should I take leave out the stock overload for an even rake?
