A great shout out to my dealer in Ashville NC. After some chat & discussion they were super gracious & had a mirror ordered in & their outside electronics shop install it. Got a Gentex 50-GENK51A auto dimming, compass, temp, homelink installed calibrated & programmed at NO cost to me. Even offered a courtesy car for the day even though the install was only an hour. While I was there I bought & had programmed an extra key for like $50 & they took care of programming my ebay purchsed remote at the same time. I'm HAPPY !

 

Didn't read through the 14 pages of posts, so perhaps I missed it. I pick up my new 2014 Double cab SR5 on Saturday. Wondering if the Canada trucks are different. My build site lists that it has outside temp gauge and compass built in to the mirror. So I am assuming it has it. Can anyone confirm one way or the other?

 

Not sure about Canadian Tacomas, but, definitely not on US unless you get the ''Limited'' pkg

the build sheet was key with my dealership. they said if it should have been on there they'd make it right & did! But all said the job is pretty simple to DIY or have an auto audio shop do in about an hour, the guy bob on this string has the best mirror deal if you end up buying it yourself

 

My Canadian 2013 Off Road has the temp and compass in the mirror, not sure about the '14.

 

Yea, I got the 2014 TRD Sport DCLB and I dont have the Homelink mirror thing.. Wouldn't mind, having it though.

 

"auto dimming" is only listed in this document twice. The first reference list the auto dimming mirror available on the DC prerunners and DC 4x4's as part of a package.

The second occurrence list the the auto dimming mirror as part of the limited package and it's not listed as part of any other package.

so clearly from this document the auto dimming mirror is only available with the limited package.

so why do folks think the auto dimming mirror is included with anything short of the limited package for 2014 models? is there another toyota document that contradicts this document?

 

i recommend buying a used one from RJP869. it's well worth the money and super easy to install. RJP869 includes everything u need. its plug and play into the existing wire harness.

 

is it the one with the reverse camera also being in the screen? Because now they have it wired to the Entune system?

 

It was stated as included on the early 2014 brochures as std equipment on other packages as in previous year models. Example: my 2012 DCSB had the auto dim-homelink-compass-temp. My 2014 DCSB TRD Sport does not. I missed it so I bought a kit from Bob and installed it in about 20-25 minutes.

 

TSB you are right down the road from me. You are correct the ebrochure's have been updated. The hardcopy versions that were out early listed the auto dim/compass/temp mirror on both TRD Sport & TRD Offroad packages. I have 2 of the brochures at the house & not sure if they have been updated at the dealerships. Jim Barley's in Ashville agreed with my POV & hooked me up!

 

RJP869 can get u which ever options u want. i got the auto dimming with homelink only.

the 2014 RV mirror wiring harness only has power for the mirror (no wiring for the temp sensor or backup cam).

so plug & play for the 2014 only supports auto dimming, compass and homelink functions. i got the auto dimming w/ homelink only (no compass).

if you want temp u are going to have to install the temp sensor and run the wiring from the sensor to the mirror. as far as the backup cam, you are correct - it's built into the display of the entune systems.
