I rotate mine in. It's a little easier to get to than the stock location. It's heavy so a second set of hands makes it easier.

In the past I have bought 3 matching tires and rotated it in that way. I have also upgraded tires and bought matching spare which I would rotate in. I do not any longer because my spare is a different tire type.

I can't even lower the spare on my 2011 Taco . The jack handle that came with the truck ( new ) doesn't engage to anything .Can't see a damn thing in there to see what is wrong . Will let CAA take care of any flats .

Have you done the spare tire pipe mod? Without this or a flashlight, I can never tell if I get it in right for the tire to lower.

I would like to rotate my spare, I have always done so on all of my vehicles. However I can't rotate my spare because Toyota in their infinite wisdom put BFG AT's on the truck but forgot the spare is a non matching BFG Rugged Trail.

I'll run it if I get a flat but if not than it'll get put aside. When I build a tire rack I'll get a matching 16" Baja silver simulated beadlock to have as a matching spare wheel with a matching spare tire. :smack:

I bought an alloy and rotate my spare. Its the only way I could justify buying a matching spare when I changed tire sizes. Warning: the 17 sport alloys changed sometime in 08??? they look identical, but the newer center caps do not fit. Had to go to the old style caps, they fit just fine on both.

Mine does not match the rest of the wheels and is designated temp use only so if I want to rotate it I would have to dismount the tire, not worth it and it gets new tires in the spring and they won't be Dunlop's.

My '08 does not, but the spare rim does not match the other 4, even though I have a steel-wheeled 5-lug.

Surprised me. My '94 had the 14" steel wheels. All 5 were the same... standard Toyota wheel with round holes all around the rim.
The spare on my '03 Tundra was the same design, but in 16" with a 265. Main wheels were the 5-spoke alloys.

Likewise, my '08 has the standard steelies that every 5-lug base model has, but the spare is the same as the '94 and Tundra. The size matches, but instead of the trapezoid cutouts, it's just a bunch of round holes.

My '94 had hubcaps, and the holes in the rims did not match the hubcaps.
On the '08, the hubcaps match the rims.

That is very possible but it still does not match the other wheel so with out removing the tire from the rim it's going to look pretty stupid with 3 gray wheels and one black one that does not even look like the others. Guess that's one way to make sure you don't run around with a low tire and never know it. Wonder what those wheel were for?

The 16" black wheels are the same as the steel wheels that come on the FJ. 15" and 14" are the same design, as were the 13" steel wheels under the hubcaps on my wife's '00 Echo...

It's just a generic steel wheel design common to a lot of Japanese vehicles:

Well the Dunlop's lasted 40K and were even ware just worn out so I guess when the truck is scrapped it will have a new 40 thousand mile junkie tire under it. Maybe if I had rotated the spare tire I would have gone 41K miles on the originals and then had 5 worn out tires.
