Opened up my CB parts. Got the firestik 4 ft antenna, stud mount, 9 foot rg-58A/U cable, and a spring for the antenna.

I need help with how the rg-58A/U cable connects to the stud mount. I looked at the instructions and set the parts out in order from left to right (pictures below). It goes Hex Nut, Fire-Ring Connect, Nylon Insulator, Metal Flat Wash, Metal Lock Washer, then the 1 1/4" hex bolt through the bottom to screw into the Hex Nut.

    My question:
After laying it out I'm left with a ground terminal, another metal flat washer, and a nylon insulator. Are the 2nd metal flat washer and nylon insulator just extra? And where does the ground terminal go? I was thinking after the metal lock washer before the Hex Bolt? So at the bottom so to speak.

2nd question for you guys. I went with the RF hood cb antenna bracket on the drivers side, how do I go about routing the RG58A/U cable from under the hood into the cab to the CB?

The Uniden 510 appears to be the same size (maybe a little wider) as my Cobra 19 Ultra III, does it get in the way alot? Or is it just something you get used to with time? Did you just drill a pilot hole in the plastic then took the cb mount with supplied screws and screwed them in? Thinking of putting mine there or on the passenger side of the center console (wife might complain in this spot) or the driver side of the center console (think my right leg might hit it there though.)

Looks like extra parts. And yes, the ground terminal would go on the bottom half. As long as you have a good metal to metal connection on your mount a ground really won't do much. As far as getting the coax inside the cab, I'm not too sure. There is the grommet in the firewall and some under the cab.

I probably won't bother with the ground then. Guess I'll have to just poke around so to speak under the hood and see what access points work for getting into the cab.

Edit: I messaged Benson X since he was the one that introduced the RF hood mount into the thread, so hopefully he can guide me in the right direction.

Sorry for the slow response. I did drill a very small pilot hole. Radio doesn't get in my way at all. Thought about the passenger side on the center console but it definatly took up leg room for the passenger.

We just installed a Galaxy 959 DX a couple weeks ago. I also used the hood mount bracket, on the passenger side, and routed the cable through one of the rubber grommets that already had wires going to it , near the steering wheel. I had to leave the 259 connector off to get it through, and then paid a radio shop 10.00 to install it when we were done. We also installed the quick disconnect on the antennae mount bracket, and bought a 2 foot Firestick for running in the woods, and a 4 foot Wilson for on the road. The Wilson is a much better antennae ,with swr's almost dead flat. That ground wire is only used if you cannot get the swr's down low enough. We just cut it off. Next step is the 250 watt linear install.

That's all I do. I know I could get better reception with other set ups but this is cheap, easy, and convenient.

so I got my cb installed (well mostly). i put the cb down by the coin tray on the drivers side then i crawled up under the steering wheel and found the hole in the firewall. taped a wire coat hanger to the end of a flat head screwdriver and stabbed it through the rubber grommet. after doing that i went under the hood and could see the screwdriver poking out (i suggest using a long flat head screwdriver), but just barely. i then took some pliers and held on to the tip of the screwdriver to make sure it didn't go back through the grommet into the cab. i managed to take my other hand and cut the tape off with a razor blade and separate the wire hanger from the screwdriver. i pulled some of the hanger through then went back into the cab pulled the screw driver out and taped the coax cable and the positive/ground wire from the radio to the hanger. then i went back under the hood and pulled. it took some pulling on it to get it through but after about 3 minutes of tugging on it it gave and both the coax and power wires came through. the grommet popped off a little bit but it just pushed back on. i wired the coax up to the antenna and the back of the cb i still need to wire my cb to power. not in a hurry to get power to it because for one its cold as hell outside. two im in germany and there's no real need for the cb. three I'm considering getting a new cb radio so id have to rewire but at least the coax is already ran.

I just ordered the same radio and was thinking about putting it in that same spot...does your knee ever hit it? Do you think it might get in the way if you had a manual transmission?

Dude, ^ that's a cool setup! I found these old school portable CBs in storage at the weld shop I worked at a few years ago.

    _EP38824.jpg

I don't play with em much but I think they're cool. They do still work!

I just bought a Uniden Bearcat 680 off a guy on the forum so I'm looking for ideas as well. It should be a great introductory radio for me. I'm thinking of running a 102" whip mounted on my rear bumper. Any of you guys know if the good performance of a 102" whip will outweigh the usually poor performance of bumper mounting? I've been reading a lot here and elsewhere but still have some questions.
