You pose a huge question in considering your build. I'm not trying to come across as sarcastic, but the forum is the most helpful tool you have to get your creative ideas flowing. There's just too many suggestions to contemplate. Use your imagination and go forth!:)

2wd must be a Florida, California thing. I have NEVER seen a prerunner in Canada and I would think if I did it would be really cheap.

Don't understand how people can buy a 2wd truck and then spend mor money than going with a 4x4

It is a nice truck though.

Also, on a more productive comment, loose the steps.

I carry less weight and less fluids to change.... This leaves me open to building a pretty quick truck.
Spending 6K+ on performance mods will yield me a quicker truck thannif I were 4wd doing same mods.
I dont see snow, rarely play in mud anymore, but do see some large grades and enjoy the extra HP.

Gotta remember, its the driver of the vehicle that needs to be happy with the way they spent their money, nobody else really drives it. So as long as I'm happy with a 2wd with a few grand dropped into the go fast products, Thats all that really matters in the end.

Now, those of you who NEED 4wd, I'll never poke fun at you because its ur money and ur truck. Bust ur butt to pay bills, spend money on whatever u want. We aren't gunna be here forever anyway.

The world would be boring if we all shared the same ideas and modded our vehicles the same way.

My 93 was 4wd and believe me I miss it. However, the days of running bogs and doing stupid stuff with it are on stand by now. Gotta do big boy things now so the 4wd was not a necessity when my fiancé went out and got the truck. I pull my boat around with the truck and all my ramps are concrete so there's not much worry for getting stuck.
