So I plan on ordering an mbrp exhaust model s5300304 for my tacoma. I have a double cab long bed, and I've read on here that mbrp designs their systems specifically for this model even though their website says extended cab /double cab short bed. I just don't want to order it if im not sure that it will fit. Does anybody have experience with this problem? It seems every where i look outside of this form that it wouldn't fit.

I've ordered one for my LB too. If you read the installation instructions PDF on their site, it explains that the front pipe is simply cut shorter for the SB models. It should fit fine. Everything from the muffler back is the same.

Based on a You-Tube video that compares sound, I've decided to also use a Vibrant resonator in the front pipe. I've ordered both in stainless, so we'll see (and hear) what happens.

Awesome, I'm pretty pumped because I just put my order in right now from carid. I figure I will put the exhaust on the truck and decide from there if i want the resonator or not. When did you order yours?

Mine is probably still a week out or so. It's freezing-a$$ cold here, so I'm not sure when I'll get it installed.

Here's the You-Tube video that compares the sound:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXIHYkggrJc
Not much difference, but slightly softer with the resonator, especially at cruising, so I'll give it a go.

I emailed them and they said it is designed for a doublee cab long bed, they should fix that on their website. Wind chill tonight here is -15 and it is supposed to stay cold for a while so I know what you mean

UPS delivered my system today. I might be able to start work on it Thursday night, but my shop isn't heated and it will likely take me a while. I may not use the oversize tips it comes with as I prefer something a bit more subtle and nobody's fooled anyway. I'll also be keeping the old system for a while just in case. I'll see if I can get some pics too. Good luck.

Any chance you could post a picture of the exhaust going around the spare tire?

For those that have been running the exhaust for a while, how is it holding up to rust? Was thinking about buying one for my new vehicle but haven't had crap for luck finding out anyone that has had it more than a short period of time. I live in the Midwest where roads are constantly salted and sanded, really hoping that a stainless version of this would last me for quite some time.

I put the MBRP on my truck a while back. Unfortunately, it's still winter here and I can't get underneath it easily for pics, but I'll describe what I did. As far as fit goes, the MBRP and Magnaflow systems are very similar. (I've tried to attach a small image of each from eBay.) The differences are mainly in how the tailpipes route over the axle. The pipes on the MBRP route over near the center and run left and right more or less equally past the spare tire. On the Magnaflow, the pipes cross over the axle on the right and the left side pipe runs left in front of the spare. I preferred the pipe routing of the MBRP as it looked like it would be a bit more protected. I had an experienced exhaust shop do the install (while I watched) and the only difficulty was getting the left side pipe in without removing the spare. He did get it in, but commented it would have been easier with the spare out. Once in, it cleared everything and obviously the fit of the whole system benefits from the 2nd gen Tacoma being in production for several years and the manufacturer has evolved the system to it's current point.

As is mentioned earlier in this thread, I wanted to use a Vibrant resonator in the front head pipe as I liked the sound better referencing the embedded YouTube clip that appears earlier. After running the system a while, I actually installed a second identical resonator. (The front head pipe on the long bed model is long enough to easily do this, though I doubt it is on the short bed.) I really feel this is the ideal sound for me. It's quiet enough and mellow, not nearly as obnoxious as the stock dual system used on the Dodge RAM Hemi's. (There's a high density of RAM Hemi's where I live. I don't understand it.) There's no booming resonance at speed and I feel I'll be able to live with it as long as I own the truck.

As far as longevity, I installed the stainless version (the resonators are stainless too) and wouldn't recommend the plain "aluminized" version unless you live in the desert somewhere. I doubt the pipes would last three years (which I think is the warranty on those systems) in a hostile winter environment. The stainless should last, the system is well designed using stock hangers and I'm very pleased, except for the exaggerated tips which I've gotten used to (and everybody else does anyway.)

Is it worth it? Of course not! These things never give you a quantifiable return on your investment. Performance changes require a great deal more thought and tuning and cat-back systems are essentially cosmetic. It's strictly a "look and sound" thing which I find very pleasing to my eye and ear. It's no different than someone else putting tons of money on off-road costume jewelry that they never utilize in their urban environments. It's personal preference, whatever floats your boat. I don't understand what everyone does, but I respect that they can and that they enjoy it. Good luck everyone.

it comes ready for the LB, people who have the SB (like myself) have to cut 14 inches off to make it fit, you should be fine, also, it sounds great.
