I'm trying to figure out if my rig has airbags within the seat as I am interested in some seat covers.

    I have a 2008, double cab, sr5, TRD package.

I don't see this listed on my sticker, it is listed as optional for prerunner double cabs in the brochure, and my owners manual is written for all models??

    Please enlighten me.

If you do, it will be identified by a small label on the side of the seat (SRS).

It concerns me too! I worry about putting covers on mine for the same reason!

I think you mean the air bag sensor in the seat. Airbags in a seat would be like ejection seats on a helicopter...ouch. Now u have me wondering if a seat cover matters to the sensor hehe.

when air bags are in the seat they blow out the side bolsters, not the actual seat cushions.

I do not believe Tacomas have them in any case.

I always wanted an ejection seat! But all Toyota gave me were these shitty seat-mounted side airbags - on my other car - they even have them for your knees and lower legs. What will they think of next! :D

per the Toyota website (I think they started this in 08)... Tacoma Std Safety Features "Driver and front passenger seat-mounted side airbags..."

I think you get the picture... But I REALLY like the idea of the ejection seat - maybe next year! I think that would stop backseat driving in its tracks!:)

I see, like the curtain in the pillar, rolls out as a side cushion.

definately air bags that come out the seatbacks/sides

09's come w/ them standard, but years before had them as an option...kinda falls the same way w/ VSC...some before 09 had them, but now they all do

Just if I could remember to turn off my airbags when I go wheeling! Would that be a bitch!

$3,000 worth of airbags, seat upolsthery, dash board and steering wheel for a $100 scratch on my front bumper!

I think we should unite and tell toyota airbags are unsafe offroad and force them to do a tsb for an airbag over ride switch!

Okay, $1,000. I guess I just saved $2,000. Now I can place that call to Bud for those powder coated skids! ;)

As much as I don't like to spend money on anything that isn't cool, I think if I found myself (truck included) accidentally flying off the trail (as I saw the aftermath a couple of weeks ago) a couple of extra grand in airbags and one less broken bone... I guess it would be a trade off I could live with.

    Redsoxnation,

from what I gather, you indeed have airbags inside your seats and will have to buy covers that are airbag compatible.

edit - With regard to seat covers:

I've thought about ripping out that seam where the bag is and kinda doubling up on the stitches where the opening would be. Then again maybe I'm over thinking it.

The way that was explained to me is that you truly do not turn those off but make the sensors less sensitive during off road use. If you are still hit hard enough on the side, they will still deploy.

rollside airbags in the ceilings that the button controls and the side impact bags are different. the RSCA's deploy when an angle hits that the computer deems a rollover will occur and they deploy from the ceiling. the side impact bags are the ones that deploy w/ a hit from the side
