Got the gas mileage down to 13mpg! Modification complete
Reminds me of the time I was flying down the highway late at night and felt my truck at the time was handling poorly. Next morning I jacked it up and the whole strut popped out of the housing. Luckly I didn't get killed.

Depending on how they were stacked in the back and whether you have three leaf or four leaf springs...I am sure you tweaked it with the load and were riding the bumps stops hard, bumpity bump...

That seems like a lot of weight for your truck to handle.

This usually occurs when the shock is too long and the bump stop is too short.

For example if you bottom out the bump stop is supposed to hit before the shock is completely compressed. But if not configured correctly the shock will reach its maximum compression before or at the same time the bump stop reaches its full compression. This causes the shock shaft to take all of the weight of the truck and cracks, bends or over time weakens and breaks.

once the shock problem is fixed, an AAL would probably be in order if you plan on carrying more heavy loads...

if you had stacked the bags more towards the front of the bed (ie: over the axle and forward towards the rear window, this probably wouldn't have happened...just sayin'...
