I use them when there are other vehicles on the road. I do not use them when there is no one around to see.

Generally, Seattlites don't use turn signals for parking, pulling out, or exiting the freeway. I think they learn this in hipster school or something. Seattle drivers have to be tops in the running for worst in the USA.

Pretty much this. Not a lot of people around here to get mad if I merge a ways in front of them without a signal. If I'm in a lane that's either go straight or turn right when we are stopped at the light, I might turn right without a signal. Didn't cause anyone despair. If no one is around, I'm gonna turn without a signal. Haters gonna hate.

I use them every time i turn, pass, and change lanes, regardless if some one is around or not and Im 20, iv done it since i started driving. Why take a chance of some one not knowing what your plans are and tearing up ur rig.

I dislike when people pull in front of me while neglecting to put enough distance between the two of us. To their credit they usually remember to use their turn signal.

In Seattle people do this all the time. The expectation is that you will slow down, not that they should speed up or be aware of your rate of travel so as not to pull out in front of you in the first place. The weird thing is everyone drives like this. It's like they had a meeting on groupthink and made unwritten driving laws. If you conform, you're fine. If you drive with the expectation to get somewhere in a reasonable amount of time, you're fucked.

edit: Oh, and they don't signal when pulling out in front of you.

This^^ nobody gives a F$&@ about anyone else other than themselves.

It's not just young people, it's all kinds of people.

    USE YOUR TURN SIGNALS!!

If I'm on a two lane highway in traffic and people don't have their signal on to merge I refuse to let them in... If they have their signal on and are attempting to merge then I will slow and let them in.

If there are people around I use them (this is the case 90% of the time), if theres no one around to signal to its pointless and so I don't bother. For me its not really a habbit to just use them so its use when needed only.

How is it not habit?! Unless you live 100 miles form anything or anyone, you should see some traffic.

Someone said it before but some times on sharp turns I'll use my signal just from the habit of slowing down and turning

This is my biggest pet peeve in the world.

I use my turn signals whenever I make a turn, change lanes, come to forks in the road or any other time that using them makes sense (i.e. waiting for a parking spot that is becoming vacant). I use them even if I am the only vehicle in sight. Why? First and foremost, it's the LAW. A basic rule in every jurisdiction in the country is the requirement to use the safety equipment installed in your vehicle.

Personally, I think it is an indicator of how lazy and un-involved (aka self centered) we have become as a society where people feel it is just too complicated, or it is just to hard or it takes too much effort to flip the lever on the steering column.

When I become that lazy or that disabled is when I stop driving.

    Sorry about the rant.

When out in the middle of nowhere like heading to the desert midweek or out late at night and no one is around, I just don't use them. This is rare though and for the most part I blink.

I use them when there are people around that I feel might not be the best drivers. When the street is wide open with one or 2 cars why would I.
