Hey guys, I'm new to Tacoma World, but I've been checking out the site for quit a while now. My question is can I run a 12.5 wide tire with a 3 inch toytec lift? Im either getting 18 or 20 inch wheels with the 33 Toyo M/T tires. The new wheels will have a 4.5 back spacing so I know that will help some. Also thinking maybe a 1/2 inch spacer? Any suggestions? Anybody running 33 12.50s?
    Thanks guys!:)

you could make them fit... but i'm sure it would require some decent trimming.... especially if you plan to offroad and need to flex them out.

there was someone who was running 33x12.5's with 3" of lift but cant remember who it was... just remember it was a dark blue double cab with MTZ's... looked really sharp

Any idea on how much "trimming would be needed? Just the plastic or major trimming? Im debating on the icon coil over and a leaf pack vs the toytec kit,but considering i dont wheel very often I'll probaly stick with the toytec. Either way I would like to run a 12.50. Any body else have any experience?
    Thanks!

Doesn't matter which kit you choose, 3" is the same. You'll probably have to chop the Cab Mount and do something with the Pinch Weld. Cutting the plastic Flares is a given.

damn...I was hoping just cutting the plastic would be all that was needed? Does a 6 inch lift remedy the problem or is a pinch weld and cutting the cab mounts still going to have to be done?
    Thanks for all the help!

Try to do some searching and you'll find the answers. I don't know a thing about 6" lifts and if they rub. Good luck.

I dont think they would rub with a 6" lift. I had my fox 2.5 coilovers cranked up to 3" and my tires cleared the cab mounts just fine (17x9 4.5BS -12mm offset rims on 285/70/17 tires) but I didnt like the stiff ride so I put them down to 2.5" lift and now I rub pretty badly on the cab mounts when backing up and turning or going over a big bump/incline while turning.

What exactly is the pinch weld?

Something on the 1st Gens that you don't have to worry about. The only two things you'll rub are the Cab mount and the fender liner.

It seems like from what I have read that the 6 inch lift will cause much less rubbing issues.. I'm just gonna go all out and get the 6 inch procomp then, I know I would regret not getting the 6 inch lift if I went with the 3"..

You should pm KROOKZ. He'll tell you the stories of his 35's on 20. Recently switched over to 33" on 18 and i believe couldn't be happier. I believe he has a 6" lift.

Hey krooks, what width tire were you running with the 35's? I would really prefer 35's over the 33's but if it damn near impossible to do without having an unforgivable amount of problems then idk..

Do you think that getting tires that are only 11.5 wide would not rub near as much? aalso did you have wheel spacers on with the 35s?
Thanks for all your help man!

krooks you are very helpful! So the 35's were only a pain in the ass when under full compression, such as taking it offroad? How where they under normal street use?

Where did you get your swaybar? My tacoma will not go offroad at all.. I the jeep for that. I love the look of 35's and just want to make sure that on the street I will be okay and wont rub over speed bumps and turning every time. How significant was the power loss with 35's?(assuming you didnt regear)
Thanks again man. You are saving me from a head ache of trial on error!
