ok I have been reading a lot and need to change the rear differential oil this weekend.
I would appreciate if anyone can help me here:
q1. I have a 2010 double cab tacoma with a tow package. Its NOT the one with the sports package. would I need the LSD additive? The article says for its needed for the sports package. Just want to make sure. I have seen something on my truck somewhere on a slip differential.

    thanks.

None after 09 need LSD additive. They are not mechanical LSD's. They are brake controlled.

I used the correct socket, it fit on the drain plug perfectly, the plug was just plain stuck. I already ordered a new plug, once it comes in I'll go to my buddys and try the tack weld to get it off.

If stuff is stuck I always try to use 6point sockets/wrenches. Much less chance that it will round it off.

The problem is the depth of the plug. Its only a 1/4" and if you get just slightly off angle with it it slips. Like Sandman said a quality 6pt socket and a swivel head break over bar are ideal.

So I have 09 OR and I pick up Synthetic with LSD additive all ready in it, is it a bad idea to use it anyways. even if I don't have an LSD?

oh man, after reading first 20 pages, this is amazing. really good stuff here Brian and Chris. I appreciate the information and the stuff I am learning about the truck itself.

Can some one please clarify couple more things...
Would Any of these oil would work for my 2010 off road tacoma?
    Mobile 1 synthetic 75w-90
    Redline 75W-90
    Valvoline 75-90 or 80-90
    Royal Purple 75w-90

I was reading somewhere that using synthetic damages sometype of oil seal. It said that when you switch to synthetic to be ready to change seals. is that correct?

I switched my 03 to Mobil 1 at 150,000 miles and not a single leak. Yes you can use 75-90 in all 3. Rear, trans case, front.

Nope, never changed one on the truck at all. Still using the same one on the oil pan also.

Advance Auto has the same price. That's the cheapest I could find so far. I need to call the supplier and see what they have available.

No, you can run synthetic, that's little validity to that. You can change back and forth too.
