    Do yourself a favor before you take your coins to the coin machine. Take a look at the edge of each quarter and dime. If you don't see any copper you have silver in your hand. Hold on to those. Keep the wheat pennies, and older buffalo nickels. There's more to look for, but that's the top of the list.

    After that, call your local banks and see which one has a coin machine that doesn't charge a fee.
