The McDonalds movie did get rid of Supersized drinks. Now you can't get a 80oz drink or what not at McDonalds or anywhere really. Freakin' Morgan Spurlock. The guy only did it because his gf/wife is a vegetarian and was desperate for some meat in his diet.

I just read the Motor Trend article on the Colorado. I think MPGs will swing people over if numbers are good. HP is a little deceptive with only 270 lbs of torque. V6 is a car motor. It will be interesting to see the power curve. Bottom line is it is still a GM.

Interesting post but not really relevant to why people buy one truck over another. Toyota is #4 behind Ford, GMC, and Dodge in Truck sales and its not because they are cheaper than Toyota. People buy those other brands because they like their truck and it suits there needs. People that buy other trucks other than Toyota are not "stupid" they just want something else. I don't like Toyota Corolla's but I wouldn't call someone stupid for buying one if that's what they like.

When I started this post I said I like my Toyota a lot but felt that they needed to offer something updated with some of the features that the new GMC/Chey mid size trucks will have. If you don't want or need these options then keep your Toyota, but don't call other people stupid for wanting something other than what you consider to be the "best truck".

You're on a Tacoma forum Jim. What did you expect? Then with a thread titled "Toyota better get their new truck on the market quick!"

The fact is Toyota doesn't really "have" to do anything. They sell themselves.

This is an interesting chart but you must keep in mind that GMC is only selling trucks, trucks are normally more overbuilt than your average car.. therefore the quality would obviously be higher... and also keep in mind that their sales volume is much lower than any vehicle brand with a full line up of vehicles.. same goes for chevy because their main sellers are trucks.. which is why they are slightly on the plus side... i also love how ford is right on zero.. that is funny lol

I love this place...only here can you find stupidity, ignorance and blind fanboism in one place. Some of you need to venture to pickuptrucks.com and have it out with the domestics idiots in an ignorant dipshit free for all. What gets me is the info on everything discussed is readily available for all to find if you could quit beating off your truck for 2 minutes...and open your minds. Yes the Tacoma is a good truck, but like with any vehicle, it needs to be improved upon to maintain or even increase market share or else it will fade into obscurity. Believe it or not the Ford Ranger was the best selling small truck by a large margin back in the 90s....low and behold, Ford refused to give it any meaningful updates and the rest is history. Check it out....Toyota is losing marketshare overall in an otherwise hot truck market. This says 2 things, one the American market prefers full size trucks over midsize, and or the general truck buying populace don't think as highly about Toyota trucks as we here on TW do.
    http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2014/01/best-selling-pickup-trucks-december-2013.html

The Tacoma's is not a hot selling car...the best selling midsize? Yes, but those are two very different things. In fact Tacoma sales accounts for less than what 2% of all truck sales....hardly a hot seller.....numbers don't lie.

The chart is arranged by volume with the more volume to the right (in the population that was being assessed - in other words, Ford had the most in the population followed by chevy. Plymouth the least.

Just wait until the first three months after they are released. I am willing to bet a few will trade their Tacomas in. Your going to see the complaints start to pile up then. GM has always done this, make excuses as to why the previous model was the way it was and had the problems it had and just push what they are selling now. They dont stand behind or value their product the way Toyota does. Just look at the incentives & resale value for an idea.

All I can say is thank God! In case you all haven't realized the American companies are stepping up their game. Look at the new Impala. Look at the new F-150. I'll give you that American cars USED to be crap, but crawl out of your hole for a second and take a look around.

All that being said, I'm happy because hopefully this will kick Toyota in the ass with regards to the Tacoma. They've been mailing their shit in for the past decade with the Tacoma. Is it the best midsize? Yes....is that saying a lot? No.

Put some proper rear springs on. Offer an engine with some better gas mileage! For shit's sake, I can buy an F-150 right now and get better MPG. Offer a diesel!

All that being said, I'm a happy Tacoma owner....but could they do a lot better? Absolutely, and they are going to have to or else the American companies are going to take this market back. This is exactly why the free market is a great thing.

My buddy has had a 2000 blazer and he spent something like $6000 fixing the stupid thing until someone stole it. Tranny went, then the head gasket IIRC.

On the other hand I have supposedly the least reliable 2nd gen available. (1st year of the new generation of vehicle with the "bad" 6 speed. I have yet to put a single dollar into anything other than routine maintenance and according to the previous owners service records neither did he. Only issue so far in a little over a year I have owned it is the AC has a slow leak that I need to put some stop leak in.

The taco is getting old but I think the taco is still miles ahead in regards to reliability.

I agree with the product quality coming out of Detroit. The next challenge is continuing to produce quality long enough for it to translate into reputation and resale. That doesn't happen overnight.

Anecdotal evidence isn't that good. I have a '11 that's had a front and read diff go bad, two front CV shafts, five wheel bearings (four front and one back) and a crankshaft seal.

I'm sure that if you look hard enough, you can find a domestic that's gone one forever without needing major repairs.

They're all made out of steel, and they all break...

(that said, I'll likely buy another Tacoma)
