I feel the same way. I replaced the O2 sensors less than 25 or so thousand miles ago and I feel there's no way they've gone again so soon. When the weather warms I'll be checking out my cats.

I too can barely squeek out 230-240 ish miles before the fuel light comes on. It's been that way even before I put on any armor. I get the same mileage now with bumper, skids, and sliders that I did with just the 3" lift and none of that.

Can cats have that much of an adverse effect on mileage? If so, I would think the code would have popped before now.....

im not an expert but from my understanding, your downstream sensor verifies the efficiency of your cat, and the upstream measures the rating of fuel mixture being burned before the cat.

so ive been told if your cat is bad then the downstream o2 tells computer to adjust accordingly which causes your upstream to fail also which is why my sensor keeps popping up after >100miles no matter how many times i reset it.

there was one time i reset it (only once in october/13) i decided to reset it before i took a 450 mile trip to Boise and the check engine light didnt come on the whole way there or the way back, so thats 900+ miles it didnt come on. the very next full tank of gas i put in the light came back on

ive also been told you can get a hammer and bang on your cat to try and unclog it.

i have not done this myself but im sure it couldnt hurt.

anyone else ever tried this or heard anything?

Ok sorry correction. P0420 means the cats are bad, which can drop mpg. I still get 18 mpg and about 6k miles between check engine light resets so I don't care. Also I live in a state where you can legally run straight pipes out the hood so emissions aren't an issue.

I haven't had a cat in months. Only thing is that it triggers an O2 sensor which I knew would happen. Mine runs a lot better without it and sounds better too.

yea in salt lake no way in hell could you run straight pipes legally (love the rocky mountains but damn them!). unless you know someone who will pass it but then if they dont do the computer scan right it will fail.

You'll rub a tad possibly more so on the lower fender with that back spacing. But nothing horrible.

yea that might work but what if the cat is clogged also.

i think i "might" be better off trying to get the cat then recycling it and using that money for a new cat

i dont have a welder or know many people that have one, so i got a quote from master muffler and it was $415 for a new cat plus install.

which is ridiculous!!! but that was for a quality cat and not a cheap one.

either way i need to figure something out soon. ive accepted im going to have to bite the bullet and deal with the horrible gas mileage till i finally make my move to north dakota and start making money which sucks. but ive only got $100 bucks left in my account compared to the $500 i had when i was supposed to leave for north dakota. but unfortunatly ive been strung around from this employer for 3 weeks now

I put 265/75/16 on my truck and was rubbing a little bit on the frame at full lock, then I added 1.5 in wheel spacers, then I was rubbing pinch weld/fender, so now I just put on my new 5100s and 1" toytec lift shackles. One thing leads to another but now I'm happy and I'll be putting pics up tomorrow!!!
