I said probably. As in it is probably reckless driving.
And not only is it not necessary....it's stupid.

    I agree

It is far from being reckless. Actually just the opposite. It is a courtesy. You don't like it, fine. Calling what someone else does as stupid is insulting. Now I remember why I left the 40 and over thread. 90% of all of your comments I have seen are some form of insult or another.

I have no feelings either way, if the person behind the person turning wants to signal fine, if they don't, that's fine with me too. I just don't care. However, use of a turn signal during these circumstances is specifically addressed in the Mississippi drivers manual & that is, the signal should not be used in this circumstance.

Always. That's what they're there for. People who don't use them are either lazy or have no regard or respect for anyone and usually get the horn blasted their way.

In fairness, I can see where it can be misinforming to the oncoming traffic if they think you're taking a left for instance. That said, I get the general idea Bama that it's more just trying to prevent issues and being proactive too.

I'll also say I haven't driven in an area such as yours so I'm sure that's part of it too..

I have family in WNY and in a close town they have i think 7 roundabouts and they have seen LESS wrecks than when they had red lights at those intersections.

driver testa need to be harder! both book test and road tests! i know our test is 30 questions, i with it was 60 to 100. also i did not have to do a 3 point turn or parallel park or anything like that. the whole road test lasted like 10 min. I know how to do a 3 point turn and parallel park but it was not part of the test. funny both my older brothers.(one is 10 years older and other one is 8 years older) and they both had to do 3 point turns and parallel park. so the test seam to be getting easier and one reason why more and more people are getting in wrecks.

i know they call them accidents but i think probably a good 30 or 40%(nation wide, including everything from small fender benders to mutable car wrecks. I know their is a good amount that really are just accidents and nothing that is changed could stop them.

    I disagree.

When I installed Muth signal mirrors on my '03 Tundra, I noticed that it was a lot easier to make lane changes because the driver next to me could see that I wanted over and would slow or speed up to let me over.
    This continued with my Silverado.
Went back to the old "pain in the ass to change lanes" when I moved to the Explorer/4-Runner/Blazer/Suburban/Tacoma.

It wasn't the size of the vehicle.... the Suburban was big, black, and JUST beat up enough to tell people that I really didn't give a shit if it got another dent.

I honestly believe that it's just typical SoCal drivers not paying attention to other drivers.

    Because people are idiots.

They don't think that there might be something in the road, or someone turning. They just see the driver in front showing down, so it's their opportunity to get ahead of them.

Mainly only for 90 degree turns that affect other drivers (people waiting to turn right; people behind me, etc). I hate blinker abusers. Just use them when your change affects others. If you change lanes and no car will have to slow down or alter their driving, there's no need for blinker use.

Oncoming traffic clears, asshole in the back passes you just as the car in front of you begins his turn.

OK , well we'll have to agree to disagree that people signalling for somebody else is a help and not just more confusing

I use it all the time! Biggest pet peeve is people who stop traffic just to switch lanes without using a signal!

    I disagree.
It could be very reckless. And I bet any LEO would agree that drivers are not supposed to signal for other drivers.
And it's not a courtesy, as OZ clearly noted...it's probably confusing in most cases.

    You are insulted? Serious?

If love to see a LEO or two comment on this issue.

I agree with you because I can imagine a scenario in which it may be necessary. It's just different driving cultures.

To be honest, there would be no misinforming for ONCOMING traffic. Example: 3 cars heading north, one heading south. Lead car heading north turns on his right turn signal, 2nd car turns his on as well to let third car know a car is turning right. The southbound car wouldn't even see the 2nd car's turn signal. Now if the lead north bound was turning left, it wouldn't matter to the lead southbound, because he has the right of way.

Yeah, there are some people who do drive crazy. Don't get me wrong. What happens many times though is in an area where you can legally pass, it is legal to pass someone who is turning right. You are not required to slow down and/or stop for a car turning right on a 2 lane highway. In the rural areas like here if you slowed down every time for a driver turning right you would be doing a LOT of slowing down. If the oncoming lane is clear, and the car or cars in front of me are turning right, I can legally pass them.

That has a lot to do with it, the different cultures. As I said, I never saw it before until I moved here.

As to you Larry, as I said, you always seem to enjoy inciting disagreements. you can't simply say "I disagree with xxxx". You have to always throw out how stupid something someone else does is. That is the reason I don't care for you. But I tolerate you because I like the forums, and know I won't always like everyone. And FYI, I said that "I find it insulting", not that I took it as a personal insult. I figured I would put that in there since you seem to so often be concerned about grammar and details. As for your LEO theory, as I said, it is something that I see here. I even see the police themselves do it, so yeah, your theory is only as sound as your personal experience. I am guessing that you have not lived in every area of every state. You can only infer from where you live. Obviously there are some who agree, or at least see my point, as they have posted as well. The interesting thing is that Oz and I have disagreed on things before, but neither of us have said the other persons opinion was stupid, or that others who thought like them were. You sir lack what is considered two very common traits needed in social situations: Tact and compassion.

Bla...bla...bla...I'm not insulted, but I find "it insulting"...bla...bla...bla...

Again, it is STUPID... For a driver to use his turn signals to let a driver behind him know what the driver in front of him intentions are.

Don't like my opinion, no problem. I can't help if you don't like how I express it.

    Btw Bama...

    Do a search
You'll find dozens of my posts that simply say: "agree" or "disagree"

You'll also find many where I offer opinions. It's called dialogue...debate...conversation.

Without different opinions and expression of them, it's just a circle jerk. And that's of no interest to me.

Funny, but it's only an issue when the opinion is different than your own.

Btw#2, roll tide. Just don't roll using your turn signal in a stupid way.
