    Haha, I think that's a parent/child thing. My dad always had a white truck and I would not choose a white vehicle given any other option except red or (more recently) black.

    That said...I know it ain't my place, but I just can't help myself...I earnestly urge you to consider getting him something with a front axle. :devil: And what the heck, a rear e-locker while you're at it. :cool: I'm guessing you'd probably bring him with to meets like Citrus and such. 4WD would just be a nice option to get him started right! :D

    Nice! Sound like a sweet deal and it's a good lookin' 'runner.

    Got a question for the 'Runner gurus here. What years/models could you get the TRD E-locker rear end in the 'Runners? And what generation did they ditch the torsion bar front suspension in favor of coil-overs?

    From what i know the e-locker stopped with the 2000 4runner. After that they came with the center diff lock thing that still doesn't make as much sense to me as an e-locker.

    Oh yeah, I think I remember reading that somewhere. Thanks Wes. So what models came with the E-locker? I don't think they had a TRD Off Road edition. I mean if I was to look for one with an E-locker, I'd be looking for a pre-2000 2nd Gen 4Runner (what?). I keep wanting to say the Limited, but it seems silly to put the heavy duty off-road goodies in the luxury package with the fancy plush interior and all. But then again, it wouldn't be the first time an automaker's decisions defied common sense and mystified me. :rolleyes:

    Oh, and I agree with the center diff lock thing. Seems to me that this would just turn it onto a regular T-case like has been in every other part time 4x4 (with the exception of certain Heep models) since the first 4WD. I guess the newer versions depend entirely on ATRAC to prevent wheel spin?

    No prob. You'd be looking for a 3rd gen and maybe 2nd gen. The elocker stopped in 2000. I remember back when I was helping Leandra look for a 4runner seeing that the limiteds did have it. You're looking for a RR locking diff button to the left of the steering wheel.

    And yea exactly haha locking center diff is kinda like a "false" locker. When you switch into 4wd you're actually in a form of awd and can drive on pavement just fine and take turns and then you hit the button and vsc is off and you have 50/50 to both axles. It's kinda cool but it gets confusing

    D'oh, yeah, I meant 3rd Gen. Although I do like 2nd Gens. I just don't think they had the diff lock option...or the 3.4L...unfortunately, both the 2nd and 3rd Gens are both torsion bar front suspension, IIRC.

    That I'm not so sure about. I remember looking for a nice 3rd gen but they were all super high on miles. Oh and 3rd gens don't have torsion bars. That's 2nd gens and I think 1st too but don't quote me on that.

    The 3rd gen 4runners arethe exact same setup asthe 1stgen tacos. Theyran from 96-02 not surewhen they stoped the lockerthough

    Yup, I was mistaken. Looked at lift kits for them and they had coil-overs. I don't know why I thought they still ran torsion bars. I thought I read somewhere that something on them stayed the same as the previous generation while the same thing changed on the Tacomas. Oh well. Thanks for the info Fellas.

    And yeah, any 15+ y/o vehicle is gonna have a buttload of miles on it, unless you find someone like me that doesn't travel a huge amount of mileage but, unlike me, wants to sell it. I think last time I heard, average yearly mileage is like 15k a year, so even with average miles @15 years, it's gonna be around 225k.
