That is exactly what you watch out for also...;) I started to look at Black wheels for a 2nd set and "Boom"...He volunteers to "sand & paint" my OEM's Black ( Fathers day gift;nice job ) BUT then suggested $$$ saved could go to help him with parts needed for his...

My daughter was MUCH easier; Camrys and she too was taught "How too's".....PM it yourself or save the $$ to get it done BUT keep it maintained and it will bring you home,safely... Almost 200k miles when she sold it...:)

I turn 20 next month and right now my monthly insurance is about $160, but thats taking into factor im 19, with a first time vehicle, first time auto loan, and it being a pickup. I was kinda forced by the bank to get FULL coverage on my truck.

My insurance was about 160 since I've gotten my truck last November until recently I switched to state farm and now I'm paying 117 for two trucks also when I had my 95 f150 4x4 it was only costing me about 120

that's not bad for full coverage at your age and with limited credit history. sucks but credit affects your rates a lot now

Quick question on THIS.....What gives with State Farm "Kicking" everyones Butt on prices ????

We just got "Sticker shock" on switching from NH to Florida But then I called a FT.Myers local State farm agent and she basically "Earned" my business by being 1/2 the $$$$ of the other guys ???

Anybody had issues with them or actually had to use their claims department ????

Haha, yeah, I guess I do like to preach the 4WD gospel. It's just that I just can't conceive of having a 2WD truck/SUV if there's a 4WD option available. It's just too alien a concept for me. :p

I also remember how badly I wanted a 4WD when I first started driving. Instead I got an early Fox-body Rustang with a thrashed out turbo-charged 4 banger engine I had to work on before I could drive it. It's not that I wasn't grateful, but, yeah, I was mightily disappointed. Especially when right around that time, my pop got a new truck (paid for by the family business) and wouldn't give me his old one (an '81 F150 short bed with a 300 I6, 5 speed, and LSD diffs front and rear). He claimed it was because the mileage was too high, but that was a bunch of horse crap. It ran good and had been well maintained the entire time by the company mechanics, but it was better to give me a thrashed out piece of crap that didn't even run because the truck had high mileage . Yeah...I was mightily disappointed.

Of course, Mike is doing A LOT better by his son.

Anyway, I'm a bit sleep-deprived so I'm gonna shut up for a while, lol. I tend to blather on when I'm tired.

Yeah, I have State Farm. And their claims department kinda sucks. You have to take your vehicle to the shop they say or they'll refuse to cover you. Recently, someone broke into the Civic and tried, unsuccessfully, to steal it. They damaged the window seal and broke the shroud off the steering column along with the windshield wiper lever. Their adjuster came out and claimed there wasn't enough damage to cover the deductible ($200), so we took it to our Honda service center, who have always been competitively priced with other shops and they quoted us $300 some odd to fix everything. We called State Farm back to see if they would cover the difference and they pretty much told us to get stuffed.

Needless to say, we are looking into changing insurance companies. As far as State Farm kicking everyone's butt...we just got a quote through AAA from Met Life. To make a long story short, the price for the same coverage as we currently have, for BOTH the Civic and the Taco, is significantly less than what we are currently paying State Farm for JUST the Civic per year. So no, they aren't kicking everyone's butt. :D

I should also mention that we also got a quote from The Hartford through AARP. They were about $400 more than the AAA/Met life quote, but they still beat out State Farm by a couple hundred per year.

As for my old 1st gen (99prerunner with 120 thousand or so miles) based on market value of what they were selling nearby at dealerships is how they, Allstate, came to pay me for the total loss and that was only $4800 after proving value of parts I bought recently. It's private party that charges a lot. I just picked up an 88 pickup for $1,700 but needs some work. Kid was asking 2,700

Allstate has been pretty fair, decent prices and not too much hassle when it comes to claims. Just misleading because all te commercials you see on tv don't apply to FL.

i work for an insurance agency so i just spoke with our personal lines department and was told the state farm "lower" rates are due to a complete overhaul of their procedures and the way they do their rating. of course premiums will vary by person due to credit, household members, etc

if anyone wants to give us a shot to shop their auto (or any other insurance), let me know!

ive been lookin around online and found this over in FT Lauderdale, *grumble grumble* sometimes I wish I had found a 4x4 back when I was in MS for tech school.

Its soooo calling my name, 4x4 w/diff lock :/....but I still owe too much right now on my truck (like 12.7K still on it) and I would want to keep everything Ive done to my truck as well

the AC switch too, and this isn't really the owners fault, but if i were selling a car, i'd either replace the fog light, or just not have them on

but I think for now i just need to stick it out with my 2wd and find the right 4x4 I would like..I wouldnt even mind switching to a black taco either, I have time though lol
