MAF cleaner isn't expensive and once you see the fine wires I wouldn't touch them with a qtip because them things are pricey if yu did happen to mess it up.

Thanks for the advice on the gears. I was leaning towards that, but was concerned that my mileage would but significant on the highway runs.

an A/F sensor in a nutshell is an O2 sensor that is VERY sensitive to minute changes. Picture an A/F sensor is like a 1080p High def TV, where the O2 sensor is still 720p.

I'm currently running 4.56 nitro gears and I love them with 33s. I was using a 305 toyo mt tires. Heavy tire and the gears worked great.. even with campershell rtt and all my gear. I have since switched to a bed rack and have moved to 35s. The 4.56 are not bad with the bigger tires. Could it be better..Yes but for me it's not worth regearing again.

there is the misconception that higher RPMs always means worse mpgs. It doesn't. Its about load on the motor. with the shorter gear ratio of 4.56 you decrease the overall load on the motor, thus less fuel gets used.

Granted, if you were to regear right this second before many major heavy armor mods and all, you might loose 1 mpg at first. But once the weight goes back on you'll see it won't change as much.

Mike did his 4.88s with 33s (he is an auto tranny though, which is recommended) and went from 14-15mpgs to 17-18mpgs again.

    It'll totally be worth it.

Hope you did a lot of prep work. When I painted mine, they started flaking and have since been powdercoated.

Oh trust me, I know it isn't about just the RPMs. It is about engine efficiency at said RPMs. I just was worried that I would be too high of an RPM on the highway and out of that efficiency powerband if I went with the 4.56 gear set. I think I am going to go ahead and go with them then. Sucks because the rear end I am swapping in already HAS the 4.10, so I would only have to buy ONE gear set. haha.

Is it plausible to think the A/F sensor could go bad within 30K miles? I replaced both sensors (1 and 2) less than 30K ago.

Maybe I just need to clean the MAF?

I have 180K so if it is the cats….I guess thats a good run from the factory set.

The A/F sensor is located before the first cat. The O2 sensor after the cat.

Because the new style sensor is so sensitive, it is not unheard of for them to fail faster. Poor engine operation can cause a rapid decline in the A/F sensor.

ahhh so what ive been calling the "upstream" o2 sensor is actually an a/f sensor?

also i should note that the cat i have on my truck is already an aftermarket cat. which is why i think it failed so fast. previous owner bought the cheap shit. i think the whole exhaust is fairly new to the truck also (magnaflow exhaust) most of the pipes arent fully rusted and still show a good amount of silver from being fully replaced recently.
