New run of 05+ steel tailgate reinforcements

Hi All-

First off, I'd like to apologize for falling of off the face of the earth and missing both thread updates and even some Private Messages. I tried to respond to all but may have missed some. My excuse is that my day job (software engineer) has had me very busy of the last year with long days and weekends.

Things are still busy, but I think I can shoehorn in another run of these tailgates.

Since I have very little room in my garage I'd like to pre-sell these with a small $20 deposit. This just ensures that they don't sit in my garage for months.

The total cost will be $150 plus shipping. How much is shipping? This depends on the location. With the last run the largest shipping charge within the 48 contiguous states was $50. Most of the time it was between $30 and $40. If this is a concern for you please send me your address and I can give you an estimate. Or, if the cost of shipping is above $50 when it comes time for the final buy and this changes your mind, I will completely refund your deposit.

I need to pre-sell at least 10 of these tailgates to meet the minimum requirements for the shop to cut and bend. More than 10? Great! Less than 10 by the cutoff date, I will completely refund everyone's deposit.

The cutoff date I'm kicking this off with is Friday, February 28. I've never done this before so I have no idea if this is too soon or too late, but we will find out.

Order placed for 11 tailgates and I should receive the finished products in ~2 weeks.

Tailgate plates complete and ready for pickup. Will pick them up first thing tomorrow morning.

Tailgates retrieved and packed for shipping. All fully paid have been dropped off at FedEx.

 

Do these come pre-drilled with all the holes for the bolts?

 

As of this point, no, they do not come pre-drilled. Frankly, I don't think I have the skills the ensure that every tailgate will fit perfectly if I drill them.

However, I just came up with an idea. Using the holes in my tailgate, I could *mark* where the holes may/should be drilled. Then it would be up to you to confirm the locations and drill the holes yourself.

 

I did the second write-up in the original post, and now, several years later, I gotta say, that if you haul anything in your taco, you need this upgrade!! It's probably the best upgrade I did to my pickup and It holds as much weight as you'd ever dare put in the back of the truck.

Particularly motorcycles;

Unfortunately, the cost for one is really high. When I was shopping these around to multiple local machine shops the last time, the cost for a single unit was over $800! It was explained to me that there's more time in setup and tooling than actually cutting/bending these plates.

so in theory, if we are able to get more than the 10 involved, the price could be cheaper??? I'm definitely interested... but would want to see what we could do to lower price just a bit as I'm in Texas.

 

The cost reduction was huge going from 1 to 5, more 6-10, and less so thereafter. Though I don't have the detailed quote from years ago, I'm estimating they go down ~$15 each. My concern is that it will take a while just to get these 10 and it's unfair to those that want a tailgate NOW to have to wait months.

But like I said, I'd be more than happy to do more than 10 and pass the savings right on.

I've found that the shipping cost goes up with how far you are from one of their (FedEx) hubs, rather than how far in total miles. What's your zip code? I'll get you a quote.

Shipping to your door in San Antonio would be $38 for a total of $188. I'll look into how to ship to a terminal, but not sure that would save much from that.

Yes, these are 1/8" cold rolled steel.
