OK - I'm taking delivery of my Impulse Red Pearl 4-Cyl Access Cab Prerunner from Maund Toyota here in Austin TX today. :p

Reading this site for the last month while I got the choice made and the purchase done has been great - thanks, all for the great info on this forum!

Now, once I've got this new machine, what mods/add-ons would you suggest? I hear things about ScanGauges, Ipod adapters, leaf-pak TSB, etc. I don't want to spend a lot of money (and I'll let you interpret what "a lot of money" means!), and I don't want to do body/engine/lift mods just yet. What are the bells and whistles you'd think would be cool?

    Steve

roll cage, bed-mounted machine gun, custom front and rear bumpers, new tires to replace the crap stockers, and maybe some nice floormats.

....and maybe a little pine tree air freshener.

More seriously I'd remove the secondary air filter and replace the OEM air cleaner with a high flow air filter. Those are probably the biggest bang you'll get for the money. One is free and an aFe Dry Pro S is about 30 bucks. I'm also a HUGE fan of the scangauge if you want to maximize your mileage but that's more expensive :D

Exactly. In comparison almost any other mod is whimpy. (mjp2's truck is a rare exception)

    Damn. Now I'm blushing. :p

Depending on how hard you plan to push your truck, my real recommendations are:

Tires. Scrap 'em and get something that'll keep you from sliding around in the rain. You'll find a few tire threads floating around this site. My recommendation for good all-around tires are the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors. Probably more than you're looking to spend right now but something to consider.

Brake pads. Braking on these trucks isn't bad, but it's easily and dramatically improved with better front pads. Swap in a set of Hawk pads and you'll be stunned at the difference. Figure about $30 and an hour of your time, including setup, jacking up the truck, pulling wheels, installation, and cleanup. RaceShopper.com has the best prices I've found anywhere and I've been doing business with them for 7 years now.

Pictures. You need to post them.

Well, you have a 4banger so get a ton of stickers to add HP. (thats sarcasm for the dimwitted)

How do you plan on using the truck?

Well, I plan to use the truck much like the guys the Afghanistan, except no armament, no offroad, not in Afghanistan, and no dangerous territory (unless you consider rush hour traffic dangerous). Ha - about 50% commute driving (20 miles each way), 40% lumber/landscape/plumbing house-project hauling, and the rest as deep in West Texas as I can get. Mileage was the reason I chose the 2.7; I'm very happy with its performance so far (picked it up last night!). Want to let it get good and broke in before I get too carried away, though.

mjp2, that's a monster build! It's like touring a candy factory or something going through those pictures - hope there's more coming, and when does Baja happen?
