Hey all, I will soon be in the market for a new truck and I am set on getting my first Taco. I've had Dodge Ram 1/2 tons in the past, but no longer need a full size. Heck, I never needed a full size to begin with but youth and perceived appearances convinced me otherwise.
Anyhow, I was looking on toyota.com (at least, the mobile friendly version touch.toyota.com I think) and was trying to "build" one and hit a snag. It won't let me order a regular cab 4x4, only two wheel drive. I don't need a back seat, but I work on remote construction sites so 4wd is a must and my Jeep is getting too old to be my DD and my Avalon is not well suited for off-road work. Does toyota not offer the Tacoma in this configuration? If not, why not? Anyone know?
Thanks for the input, hopefully this is just a problem with the website and I can get the truck I want.
    Tyler.

Howdy and welcome to TW. I don't know what the deal is, but I just tried it from my desktop on toyota.com and got this message:

"Unable to select this option due to availability in your area, please Contact a Dealer or make another selection."

I don't know if that's the same thing you're getting, but I'd suggest just asking a dealer what they have to say. Plus I don't live anywhere near TX so it can't be a regional thing.

Well now that is just too simple. Thanks for the response, I try to do as much of my car shopping online pre-purchase to minimize the dealership interference.

Alrighty, well my Taco is en route to me from Arkansas. I was offered a company truck from work and managed to convince them that rather than the typical Chevy Silverado I would like a Tacoma, and they bought me one!
2014 V6 Double cab Prerunner with the long wheelbase (long bed). I believe it has the V6 towing package as well. Should take them a few days to get it delivered, apparently they couldn't find one more local (south Texas) with the long bed in white which is the standard company truck color. Hey if I get lucky maybe it won't even have the company logo on the doors :D.

Thanks. Just anxiously awaiting the phone call from the shipping company to let me know it is available for pickup (no pun intended).

Man, this is the first new vehicle I've gotten since I bought my 2000 Dodge Ram. I did buy a 2004 Ducati but it was a dealer demo so not technically new.

So why didn't you end up with a 4x4?

Company is paying for it, and I couldn't convince them to pony up the dosh for 4 wheel drive. The Chevy wouldn't have been a 4x4, nor would it have been a crew cab either so I think I came out ahead on the deal.

I realize my original interest was in a regular cab, but that was when it was my money to spend and I couldn't justify putting out for the larger body style. Since the company wants me to be able to move people around from time to time, well the crew cab just makes good sense. And it'll make it easier to haul my 6' son around as needed.
