Sounds good Chip, do a lol exploring in Centralia, then head over to whale back n unload a few rounds. Zak, if you need any help converting the AK, I did it to mine, super easy, and I got all the tools needed.

Speaking of which, there have been a lot of scary threads popping up on t4r about them

one example.. Seems like evryone has a really hard time getting it timed properly.

 

Noy sure why others are having suck a difficult time with the timing belt. I admit it is time consuming, but pretty strait forward. I did it twice with no problem beside the stupid Bosch water pump failing on me. Truuthfully, the toughest thing was moving the AC compressor out of the way, them re mounting ot.

 

It's pretty cramped in there on the 4th gens too. I know one guy hd to pull the radiator and get a 1200 ft/lb impact on the crank pulley bolt because he couldn't get it off. I'm worried I'll have to take off my air tank, though I suppose pulling the bumper would be easier.



As for time consuming, I don't mind as long as it works and gets me home haha. Seems to take most people in the neighborhood of 4 hours.

Another guy just recently stripped (I think) the tensioner bullet because it's reverse threaded, just scary stuff. But I'm glad yours went well, hopefully mine will too. It's at 115k right now, recommended change was 90...

 

Pulling the radiator is a must, have to make room to work, and it really doesn't take much to remove it. As for the crank bolt, its on too tight from the factory, but a breaker bar and a quick turn of the ignition frees it right up. Just buy a Haynes dumby book for your runner, and it will have a step by step for everything and have all the Torque specs as well. It is worth it just for the torque specs.

 

Damn it! I have the haynes, it never leaves the truck.

 

I still have mine for the Tundra, and every other car that I owned

So guys, this weather sucks. 1º in Pittsburgh today.

Over the past few days, I've begun to notice some knocking, creaking, and popping noises coming from underneath my truck. I can feel it through the floor. It started on just the driver side, but now its on the passenger side as well. It's now almost constant when driving.

It feels like a suspension thing, is it possible that it's just ice? This is my first winter with the truck, and I'm running the toytec lift.

I really don't have much time to take it into the dealer since I have class every day, but I will if anyone thinks this could be a serious issue. Any ideas?

 

I had a clunk in the floorboards during the last cold snap too. Once it got above freezing it went away. You probably just have a chunk of ice somewhere.

 

I'd be willing to bet its ice too. I had a clunk on my drivers side after driving in some slushy crap a couple days ago and then parked. But seemed to go away after things warmed up. Got a warm garage to park it in for a couple hours? Otherwise its gonna warm up Friday and Saturday. Saturday would be a good day to hose everything down too. Which is what I plan on doing.

 

HA! Yeah I went to the car wash yesterday to hose the funk off...... Looks the same a day later!
