I got my from Dobbs down on Broadway. Been going to them for years and they are for the most part a great company to deal with. They ordered them and had in for me in 3 days.

Keep your stock wheels to use in non winter months. I dig my DTs but they are for sure louder and despite them looking full pimp I will for sure switch back to stock for spring/summer.

    Greetings all.
I'm about halfway between StL and CoMo, so just checking in since I started lurking with the 2004 PreRunner a couple years back. Traded for this 2012 4WD, and loving it. I haven't done any serious wheeling, but I'm curious to see a little more about what this truck will do. 40K on the stock Rugged Trails, and thinking about Cooper AT3's next.
    So just howdy.

Might I recommend Goodyear wrangler Duratracs. I'm on my second pair and love them.

Are there any TW members in StL that are very knowledgable in lifts for my 08 DCSB SR5 4x4? Or know a local shop that is familiar with bilstein set ups?

I've almost saved up enough money to get billies all around with OME 885's and a replacement leaf pack, but want to make sure I'm not forgetting or over looking any other parts that I will need to install. I was going to buy new bushings for the leafs, and a spacer for taco lean. Anyone help would be awesome!

Axleboy did a pretty awesome job on mine. Scott is knowledgeable on all things 4x4.

I see you went with the OME set up. Any praise or gripes?

I've never lifted anything before. Done lowering kits and coilovers on cars but never had to deal with leaf packs or shims. There's so much info on TW that just seems to bring up more questions in my mind than answers!

Absolutely no complaints about my OME setup. Totally loving it! Not sure where you're at, but if you're in the St. Charles area, I'm happy to meet up with you so you can check it out.

Here's what I have put together so far. I really just want to make sure I buy everything to successfully install the lift myself. Here's also a convo I had with Dan at Wheelers Offroad.

The suspension seems pretty bad and I would like to upgrade to 4x bilstein 5100's with OME 886 springs to achieve a 2"-3" lift (this is what I've concluded from research, but am open to suggestions). My future goal for the truck is to install an armor front bumper and possibly a cap on the back. Mainly I want a better ride than I have now, better load capacity, and capability to handle the weight of some armor. I believe I need the 2" AAL b/c of the non-TSB leafs? I have several questions however.

1)With a 3" or less lift, do I need a front diff drop like I see in some kits?
2)What setting should the billy's be set at?
3)With the Wheeler's in-house strut assembly, do I just need to purchase the billys and springs?
4)Is there anything else I'm forgetting that would be required?

I would appreciate any advice you have and hope to do business with Wheeler's in the future.

    Thanks,
    Heath
    Hey Heath,

    1) The Diff-Drop is optional. Some people like to install them, and some do not. Just preference.
    2) Are you putting the bumper on right away? I would avoid the 886 coils. 885s will provide about 2.25-2.5" of lift on your truck, and the 887s close to 3 once broken in. With either set of coils, the bilsteins would be left at the stock setting.
    3) Yes, the assembly charge is for the parts and pieces needed to put the shocks and coils together, since we don't have those parts off of your vehicle to re-use.
    4) I would recommend going with the 3 Leaf HD aal for the back for a better ride.

I live in Creve Couer but am all over Stl most days. I would love to take a look sometime. That's kind of the issue I'm talking about. I'm a very visual and hands on learner, so I think actually seeing the components involved would help me a ton.

Can't just post your cart..it won't load for me. So you'll need to post a straight up parts list.

Don't bother with a diff drop. Totally useless on 2nd gens.

I also wouldn't recomend 886s unless a bumper was going on soon. They will ride VERY rough as they have a very high spring rate. But if you know a bumper is coming..go for it, but be ready for a stiff ride.

the 3 leaf AAL that dan recomended will ride better then a single AAL. Either one is fine.

If you are considering having Dan put your CO together for you, thats great. WIll make swaping the fronts out super easy. 4 bolts on each side and you'd be done.

New bushings out back won't be needed as you aren't pulling the full leaf pack anyways to put in an AAL.

You'll need new center pins though and possibly U bolts.

now i would also recomend the nitrocharger shocks over the 5100s. 5100s are valved pretty stiff so the ride is kinda harsh compared to OME shocks. Not to mention, OME coils are engineered for OME shocks..so they will work better together. Now, that doesn't mean 5100s won't work because they will. You just said you wanted a better more comforatble ride then stock and OME are gonna be better then 5100s. Both will be a nice upgrade though.

5100s shoulda ALWAYS be set on the lowest setting with any aftermarket coil. On some coils for 2nd gens you can set them at the .85'' lift mark. But i wouldn't as preloading coils really stiffens up the ride.

But don't expect it to ride like a lexus. Your upping the spring rates of coils and leafs and changing the valving on the shocks. Really it'll ride a bit stiffer at first. Once some weight goes on it and they get broke in, it'll mellow out big time.

Thanks for the info Blackdawg. I doubted the cart link would work but figured doesn't hurt to try. The diff drop was one thing I wasn't sure about. I learned the 885's are the way to go.

So in your opinion, is it better to piece together the OME setup from wheelers, or go with kit from toytec? (Toytec also offers in house coil builds now) The toytec package offers either a 2" AAL, 1 1/2" AAL, 3 leaf mini pack, or full dakar. I know I have the non TSB leafs.

    Here's that kit:

My dad has the Ult kit from Toytec. The older one. Its nice. But the front CO are just 5100s basically with an adjustable CO.

OME setup i think would be nicer in the long run. But both are good kits.

Yep and did the same set up on my last truck. I think the ride is fine. Once these wear out I will most likely go full OME with Dakar.
