Hey guys, I hope it's okay if I post my question here. I'm installing a lift on my 2nd Gen at home (5100's, OME coils and AALs) and am looking for a reputable alignment shop in the Kitsap area.

When I lifted my XJ (w/ adjustable control arms), I took it in to Goodyear in Silverdale and those guys had no clue (they were happy to take my money though). I had to bring it back home and re-align it myself in the garage (levels, angle finders, etc.). I got it within spec but I was pissed!

I don't want to go through that again. Is Firestone any better? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Firestone can be hit or miss, but the lifetime alignments sure are useful!

I suppose I could. Hadn't really considered it. I'll give Heartland Toyota a call and see how much that'll run.

Eh, see my Build Thread sig link. Too many mods to list.
This. Lifetime alignment for something like $180. I've had it on my Honda for 14 years now...haven't paid for a single alignment after that.

I have a lifetime one with Firestone. You just need to find one that is somewhat competent. It's lifetime, so you can go back after every off road trip, every lift adjustment, etc. For the price of 2 alignments at a dealer you can get a lifetime one... Just my 2 cents

I go to the Silverdale one with no issues. I also have the lifetime. After the lift, they were surprise that the alignment was good.

Hey guys, I live in the Port Angeles area and am usually going up Slab Camp for a quick offroading run. The trails that I know of stay pretty local and don't go too deep into the mountains but Im wanting something that goes a bit deeper and makes it a bit more of a trip that would take a whole day for some friends and I. I know a lot of you aren't from my area, does anyone know of any trails like that on the Peninsula?

I'm really debating on the Tahuya run, but it'd be an hours drive just to get to the trail and Im kinda strapped on money. Just out of curiosity (not just for this run) anyone know how many people in this thread live on the Olympic Peninsula?

Those are pretty sweet little rigs; guess they're not very durable, though.

They've definitely got some weird stuff going on as far as what freqs. they can TX on (out of HAM bandwidth) technically illegal.

    Assuming you've got your license.

If I get one I intend to get my license so I'm legal

I was debating between a unit more like my cb mounted in my truck or a hand held one... Granted a handheld one wouldn't transmit as far but if there are repeaters that would help. Plus others have said if you roll your vehicle and it's hard mounted in your truck.... You might be sol, while with a handheld one you could hike to a high point and call for help.

    Any radio recommendations?

Man I really want to learn some off-road skills and I've wanted to go check out Tahuya for a long time but I'll just wait for the next trip. I'm very new to wheeling and I'm afraid I'll slow down the already large group.

Hope you guys have fun, stay safe. I'll just keep an eye out for the next meet!

It's really subjective; but I really, really like the Yaesu FT-1900R I have in my rig. Basic, and pretty much bulletproof.

I've gone back and forth on picking up one of those cheap handhelds also. But, yes - rolling my rig and being SOL has been a thought of mine. Although, I'm wired directly to the battery - and can transmit as long as I can get 12 V.

Truthfully, I've been in some pretty remote areas where no one was listening to the local repeaters. Most of the contacts I've made out in the backcountry have been Simplex 146.520..

Now if you really want to reach out, go for HF.

The person you get may be 2,000 Miles away... but you can be sure they'll make a phone call to someone that can help you.

To the both of you, what about riding along with others? I already have a passenger, and stuff in my back seats. If you ask somebody else, you can probably find a seat pretty easily.

Now I know who to talk to when I look into getting some form of communication for my truck. Is there anything you don't seem knowledgeable about Jake?

Yeah I thought about that, but my GF really would like to go as well and I just don't feel right asking someone to haul both of us around. Plus she had foot surgery a couple months back and she's still a little slow getting around.

I'm sure there will be many more meets in the coming months so I'll just keep my eyes peeled.
