does this instruction apply to (2010) tacoma with jbl audio system?
with your instructions, I don't need to get the adapters crutchfield sells (AX-ADBOX1 and AX-ADTY01) right? You are basically tapping the wires coming from the pioneer radio to the oem radio wiring using the clips right?

do all buttons on the steering wheel work with the

$63 aswc1 metra axxess ASWC-1 steering wheel control interface

aswc1? that includes the on hook, off hook and speak buttons for hands free phone control on the right side of the steering wheel.

I have the 8500bhs with this SW controls and the phone controls no longer operate the phone. The phone "answer" and "hang up" buttons are used for:
1. On SiriusXM it changes you to your next preset stations (the up/down buttons below volume move one station at a time - which I hate.)
2. On USB stick is changes folders (assuming you have your music in folders like "albums" or by music styles)

Sadly, they will do nothing to answer or hang up a phone - which I dislike, especially because I do not want to take my eyes off the road to hit the answer button on the radio screen.

 

I just installed an AVH-X5600bhs (2014 model) and the

$63 ASWC-1 Steering Wheel Control Interface

ASWC-1 steering wheel control. I am able to get the Bluetooth buttons to work. The on hook/ off hook buttons only works for picking up and hanging up incoming calls though. The push to talk works by activating the "Siri Eyes Free" mode. I did have to program/remap the keys though.

The default that ASWC will do is simply assign the button functions in the order of the 18 buttons listed in the manual. For the (2010) tacoma case, since there are 8 buttons on the steering wheel, it assigns the first 8 button functions respectively. And yes, the default is up/down becomes seek up/seek down and onhook/offhook becomes next and previous function and push to talk becomes mute by default. I just remap the 8 buttons to the proper functions.

70-8114, scosche dash kit, iphone 4 cable and parking brake bypass all for around $500 on ebay. The install was pretty straight forward and only required 5 wire connections. 4 connections described as "harness 1" in post #1 of this thread, then connection #5 is the green parking brake wire to the green parking brake bypass. This is for jbl connection, so no speaker wiring connections are needed.

 

Just have Best Buy do it for $200.00 like I did. I did the same exact radio and they did the bypass for me really easy they said.

 

Just finished installing the Pioneer AVHX5600BHS in 2010 Tacoma. Rather than use the instructions in post 1, I opted to pay a little extra and use the harness sold by Metra.

3. Scoche Dash kit for 2005 and up Tacoma
4. Axxess Metra ASWC-1 Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface with Micro B Connector
5. Metra 70-8114 Steering wheel control harness for ASWC-1
6. SiriusXM V200 module
7. SharkFin adapter SFA-12M (to allow use of oem satellite antenna)
8. Microbypass parking brake switch to allow use of DVD when vehicle in motion.
9. RCA plug video cable to interface with Pioneer AVHX5600BHS and rear camera (see http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/audio-video/30889-oem-camera-connection-below-dash.html - Post number 1 and post number 98 for correct connections)

Everything was very easy with instructions contained in the harnesses and also the Pioneer manual - you basically match color for color on the Pioneer harness, and the harness for the Steering Wheel control module allows you to install it with just two connections (there is a youtube video from the manufacturer of the module) The module is self programming.

Total cost was about $550 for everything through Amazon.

I figure I saved about $350 because that's what CarToys quoted me for the install.

 

nbrooks...awesome. Do you have any pics? I have the same headunit (5600) and will be installing next weekend. I spent this weekend deadening the doors, installing new speaker/power wiring and Hybrid Audio Technologies Clarus (fronts) and Imagine (rears) speakers. I purchased the speaker baffles from Mr Marv (guess his name is 'marvelous' for short as he is an amazingly nice person) and waiting on a custom amp rack/sub enclosure made by Marv. Cannot wait to get it all completed.

 

I am interested in this. Are you saying you have the backup camera that displays on the rear view mirror, and now it also displays on the pioneer head unit?

I did the same install, except I have the JBL, and I did not do XM since the whole point for me changing the head unit is to get rid of XM subscription.

nice. I see the scratches below the AC control knobs. I think I read in one of the posts (or maybe a youtube video, I can't remember) those can be smoothed out by heating with a hair dryer.

I also see you have the aux port next to the lighter. You connected the

did you install the iphone cables? where did you put the handsfree microphone?

I use iphone4 and got the cables cheap. I think iphone 5 cable still costs an arm and a leg.

 

Thanks for the tip on the hair dryer, I'll try it out.
(edit)...... Using a hairdryer actually works to remove scratches from the vinyl - high heat about 8 inches from the scratch, use a smooth implement such as the handle of a screwdriver to "massage" the scratch area.

The metra-8114 ius connected the head unit's wired remote - although I haven't actually tested the aux to see if it works.

No IPhone I'm all android - trying to figure out if this will run my android maps. Keep getting an error code of 02-DO when I connect the HTCOne-S with the USB

Hands free mike is installed in the overhead by attaching to the garage door opener compartment.

70-8114 3.5mm jack connects to head unit wired remote, then it also has a red and white rca jack that connects to the head unit aux (red and white) rca jack. This will enable the aux port (I see you have the aux port 3.5mm jack at the very bottom of your picture, to the left of the 12v outlet).

as for android, are you using the mirrorlink app? how is it working? all you need is just a usb connection?

my 2010 has the compass/temp overhead. I did not know other models come with a garage door opener. do you have both the garage door opener and the compass/temp display overhead?

 

I guess that I mispoke about the garage door opener, there is a small compartment in the overhead below the sunglasses compartment. You can put a garage door opener in it.

Right now the USB connection does not recognize my android phone - I presume that because Pioneer sells a gps unit for about $300 to go with this X5600, they would not be inclined to make it easy to use a mirrored phone nav.

so, on the pioneer install, do you use the 3.5mm plug on the aswc-1 harness? if so, which plug does it hook into? (avh-x4500bt)

 

There should be a 3.5mm jack on the pioneer labeled wired remote input

 

I successfully connected the reverse camera video to the head unit. works nicely. I can now really say I am happy with this head unit. I almost bought the lower model at crutchfield, till I saw on ebay the 2014 model was going for less than the price for the lower models. $340 for the avh-x5600, which I think is the right price, considering it is essentially just the older 5500 model with an updated firmware, that they market as a new model so it can sell for $500.
