Well, they have to get it right. Notice that GM won't introduce the diesel in the Canyon til 2016 (do I have that right?).

    Notice from this article http://www.popularmechanics.com/car...hat-will-power-the-next-nissan-titan-16187945

The fuel rail PSI is 29,000 psi for that Cummins, and therein I believe lies the problem trying to introduce overseas models of the smaller twin-turbo diesels. There's something going on there, my mechanic friend tells me they'd probably need 30,000 psi on the smaller diesels to meet the emission standards, and the overseas models are something like 24,000 psi.

So I'm thinking there has to be some more R&D that is holding companies back from introducing a smaller diesel into the US market.

I do know I saw a prototype Chevy Colorado diesel last year trying to climb a 6% grade in Colorado, it was blowing bursts of white smoke out of the exhaust, was slowing down on the grade and took the first exit available.

So is it coincidence GM will delay the introduction of the overseas diesel, or did their testing in the US fail them, need more R&D???? Same with Toyota and Ford, they have overseas diesels but maybe they're having problems getting them adapted to US emission standards???

And you have the issue of the higher cost for diesel fuel in the US, taxed higher than petrol, costs as much as premium. We'll see how it all turns out . . . . .

Yeah maybe they'll get their shit straight soon. I think if they did put the diesel option out there people would buy.

That's interesting. Toyota, with only the two assembly lines for all of their truck models, plus depending on Japanese manufacturing for parts (I believe all of their engines and transmissions are built in Japan, among other things like alternators and other electronics), Toyota doesn't have the versatility domestics do for a US market redesign.

Throw in that earthquake a couple years ago, that could have thrown a huge monkeywrench into redesign plans . . . . .

There are no Taco and Tundra engines and trannies produced in Japan.

Both my engine and tranny were built in Japan. Said so on the window sticker. Maybe that's changed since the 2012 model . . . .

Can't believe no one on here has mentioned the new TRD pro. No one has seen the commercial? Or has it been mentioned? Seem like I thought TW would be lit up with it.

Just got back from a trip to hunt camp last weekend, and for the love of God, Toyota do something about the MPG.

I got a grand total of 210 miles out of the tank. 11.66 MPG, and I had the truck with nothing in it, the ATV on my trailer behind.
Had the cruse set most the trip at 70mph, the posted speed for most and 45-55 the rest. Somewhat flat land US 64 east out of Raleigh.

BTW I was reading something the other day that was talking about VW to bring there truck to the US, it is a true truck, body on frame, and will have a Diesel. They just need to work out the Fed reg stuff and where they build to keep away from the heavy import tax.

Either you drive with a heavy foot, a lot of stop and go, off road, or something is wrong with your truck. Your info doesn't say if it is lifted, different tires etc. so it's hard to know.

Drive easy, set the cruse and no off road, nothing wrong with the truck, no lift.
That trip was a direct shot, maybe one stop at a light, and I was there, parked, off loaded, reloaded ATV and drove home.

I did get ne tires, 265 but it was about the same with the old stock tires.
I think last numbers were 12 mpg.

Just when ever you tow with these trucks it falls off like a rock.
