Has anyone gotten the rear spring TSB work done on their truck at a dealership in San Antonio or Austin WITHOUT loading the truck up and actually showing them? I ask because I live 70 miles from Austin and 100 miles from San Antonio and don't want to drive either place loaded. I bought the truck from Universal in San Antonio. I called them in January and they insisted that I'd have to load the truck and prove to them there was a problem. I see Toyota put a new TSB out to cover the 08's now so i'm hoping the dealerships will be more willing to do the TSB without proof.

There is LOWES right next to the Universal Toyota dealership. Just "buy" some landscaping stones and load them up and drive next door to the dealer. Then when they verify the issue, return the landscaping stones to LOWES.

    Easy Cheesy! :D

I have considered doing that before but the problem is that I'd have to go to San Antonio(250 mi round trip)and prove to the dealership I need the TSB. Then from what I've read they have to schedule another appointment and order the parts. So that's another 250 mile round trip to get it done. When I bought the truck, i was going to San Antonio a couple times a month. I'm not anymore, and I really don't have any other reason to go.

I was hopeing someone knew of a dealership that I could just call up and tell them my problem, maybe give them my VIN and the #'s off my springs and they would set up a appointment to do the work, thus saving me a weekend and 250 miles.

I got mine done @ Round Rock Toyota and they only needed my VIN. Give them a call and ask for Scott Mazoch.

Start cold calling some dealers in both Austin and SA. There is more than one in each town.

As to your logistical issue of mileage from a Toyota dealer, you may just have to suck that one up. Dealers like to charge back to Toyota Corporate for both an inspection appointment and then the actual service appointment. They very rarely are going to go off of "your word" before ordering parts. Nature of the business.

Could be worse, I had a 98 Isuzu Pickup that had their non-commercial dealer network collapse and I went from a 30 minute drive for dealer service to a 6 hour drive.

I didn't have to prove anything to them when I got it done 4 months ago or so.

I know what you mean. I had a 97 chevy truck that had a exhaust leak that you could only hear when you got on it pretty good. I took that truck back to the dealership 4 times before they fixed it. I finally had to take a technician with me so he could hear it. Luckily that dealership was in the town that I lived.

On this deal, they're not really going off "my word" It's a common problem that has had a TSB issued on it for at least 4 years. I just want to find a dealership that would have the courtesy to fix it without having me go out of my way to jump through the hoops when the end result would be the same either way.

Well I talked to Scott and he said now Toyota makes them have a technician inspect the vehicle before they'll put the order in. But he didn't say anything about haveing to bring it loaded. I'm waiting on a call back, he's checking my VIN. It looks like they can inspect it and do the work the same day. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I'll see how Round Rock Toyota is going to be. Sounds like they're going to do me right. I just want to get it all done in one trip. I'm glad to see they're not making people load up their trucks when they know exactly what the problem is already. It's rediculous making people jump through hoops like that. I'll hit you up for a # if it doesn't work out with these guys though.

They have a collision/repair shop there so they keep many of the toyota parts in stock. I only had to wait 1 day in order for the ubolts to come in when they did mine. Hopefully they'll take care of it, they've given me pretty good service so far.

He said they probably have the parts in stock. Hopefully he'll check on that too before he calls back. I'm going to be sure before I make an appointment. How long did it take for them to do the TSB work?

I don't see the need to call Toyota yet. Round Rock Toyota seems to be willing to work with me. Didn't get a call back this afternoon though, but he said it may take 24 hours.

Well I heard back from the dealership this morning. My VIN was indeed within the TSB available trucks. Still I had to schedule an appointment for them to look at it, and "if it needs the TSB" they have the parts on hand to do it the same day. Everything is working out pretty well.
