The wheel bearing stays intact. It doesn't come out. You just pull the CV out of it; and don't even need to mess around with it.

I think I have the same problem with the bushing.

Do you think the removal tool was/is mandatory or could it be done with another tool?

 

The ECGS puller is mandatory. It was machined specifically for the bearing. I know $60 seems like a lot for the puller. But a lot better than dismantling the front diff to get the bearing out. It's worth every penny. You also need a bearing/race driver. Otherwise you can damage the bushing on install.

 

All in all, how much did this run you?

 

About $200. But then my 150lb torque wrench wasn't big enough for the hub nut. So I spent another $120 on a new torque wrench (250#). All in all, it was cheap - I didn't need to pay someone to to do the job.

 

I'm interested in more info on the cable/sledgehammer trick you used to remove your axles. I just ordered the ECGS bushing(and removel/install tools). Any help on info to removing the axles would be great.

Did you replace your axle seals?

 

I did not replace my axle seal (although i purchased one in case I damaged mine - my truck only has 9,000 miles).

I used 48" of 1/8" cable and created loops, using 2 clamps at each end. One loop around my short-handled 10-lb hammer. The other loop around the diff-side of the inboard CV joint. I gave about 6 hard yanks and it popped out.

Put a creeper or cardboard underneath in the landing zone; and thread hub nut back on to protect the threads. The shaft will fly and hit the deck.

Sweet. Thanks for the link! Protection of the old Shaft is optional for me as the shaft(will become trail spare) and seal are getting replaced at the same time

Are you running the bora spacer with your new wheels?

 

No. I'm going to sell them.

 

I got my Pro Comp wheels installed last week.



I would have liked to have purchased better quality wheels like SCS; but wheel specs dictated my choices for black wheels. Since I already had my DuraTracs, I needed 17" wheels; and didn't want to go wider than 8". I also installed black ET Gorilla spline lugs. The wheels balanced OK. A couple of them have a lot of weights, which is not unusual for Pro Comps.



I'm very happy with the look and also was able to remove my Bora spacers.



Here's some pics:

 

I was rubbing the front wheel well liners because of my new wheels. Rather than trim them as I originally planned on, I moved them forward about 2" on the inside and about 3/4" at the outside. I drilled new holes and re-bolted them in place.

Strong work! Sounds like you need a Roadforce balance. I fought my Duratracs on DC2s for years trying to get rid of vibes. I think my problem was worn hubs on my 07. I replaced them at 175k and then sold it.
