Okay, you saw what it's all about then. I want one in .260REM that I'll throw a keymod rail on and then marvel at how light that damn thing will be. It sucks the barrels are proprietary but as long as they make the barrel extensions available the aftermarket will follow with supply if the demand is there.

I promise that if you go in on Monday and that sign isn't there the prices will all be exactly the same they are right now. I understand your logic though.

You did buy an obsolete model for a grand when the new version which will change the segment was announced already, right? :D

Oh, I misunderstood then... did that sign say 'Free guns?' ;)

I wouldn't say it's an obsolete model, just not the newest version.

No it said gun sale, but the discounted price was close to the amount of a lap dance at a high end place so its similar yes? Lol

I don't need the latest and greatest, it just needs to go bang when I pull the trigger and put rounds on target at 500 yards.

Obsolete was a bit of a overstatement perhaps but it's not likely DPMS will continue building the Gen 1 versions for too much longer so from that standpoint they will be obsolete eventually. Seeing as how lots of parts for the AR10/LR308 platfrom are proprietary that may be sooner than later. They're not like AR15's where parts are all compatible (save for a few stupid Colt lowers) and you can find parts you need in just about any shop anywhere in the nation. Personally I wouldn't buy a DPMS LR308 right now even for half price but that's just me. I will likely sell my POF to get one of these new DPMS G2's once they release the barrel extensions or sell a .260 barrel for them. I'm excited with what they've done with the segment as it was stagnant, unreliable & needed a kick in the right direction. I just didn't think it would be DPMS of all manufacturers to be the one to do it. Good for them though. If this thing pans out it may be good for all of us.

If you pass by a strip club that has a sign out front that says 'free lap dances' you let me know.

    ....on second thought... don't. :puke:

This is exactly why you need the new G2 platform. The 308 AR platform isn't known for reliability. If you bought it thinking you were getting an AR15 that shoots 30cal rounds you'll be disappointed. There are plenty of known issues with the platform & this all-new design addresses most all of those. Time will tell if they got it right but from the sounds of it they have.

I bought it thinking it was a 308 that will shoot 308 rounds.

If I'd wanted an AR15, I woulda bought one. That's coming later this year.

It will shoot 308 rounds... until it doesn't. Then you'll wish you had got the newer version.

My point is, even if you buy a $3,000 LMT or KAC 308 AR you will till have reliability issues. Not as high as you will with a DPMS but you will have issues. It's an inherent problem with that platform as they basically just oversized parts and expected them to function flawlessly. They don't. I speak from experience because I bought a DPMS LR308 when they came out and had to let it sit in the safe for 2 years waiting for Magpul to release the 308 Pmags because the magazines DPMS included were complete garbage and I couldn't get ANY rounds to feed. I think they've addressed that issue mostly (I use Pmags exclusively in that platform so I can't say first hand) but there are still going to be issues here and there. That's the exciting thing about the G2 as it addresses these issues. The fact that it takes AR15 accessories is simply icing on the cake.

If you want it to go bang (pretty much) every time get a bolt rifle like you stated. I just wouldn't have plunked down a grand on the system you got and you woulda been better off holding onto the coin and saving up for the G2 when you can get your hands on one because I have a feeling it's going to be a much better weapon system.

You may be right, but its not the end all be all gun, we'll see what happens...I still need to get glass and ammo for it before I can do anything. Would you like to be there when I shoot it so you can say I told you so lol!! Or vice versa :p

I really wish they make like a tundra version of a power wagon and then can still keep their simplified versions. There's just so much cool technology now but toyota seems to be behind the curve for some reason. *cough* diesels *cough*

I'm still amazed how much they put in the 2014 grand Cherokee. The 2013s didn't have much and then BAM here is freaking everything!

A diesel is probably the last thing I want in a Tacoma. Never understood the small crowd who thinks that would be the end-all be-all truck.
