It is so great to read that so many on here are paying cash for their vehicles. Since they are depreciating items there is no better way to go IMHO. I am 60 and have been debt free for 15 years except the house which was paid off this October 4th. Actually it was my 2nd house to be paid off in full. My ex-wife lives in my first paid off house. I have taught both my 2 children to live within their means and hopefully they will both be 100% debt free earlier in life than me. The peace of mind that results is a feeling like none other you will ever experience.
Sorry for the old man rant. :)

$1300 X 36 = $46800, plus interest rates are low. WHAT did you buy?

I paid cash for mine. I think (at least for ME) the true value of paying cash instead of financing was that it gave me power of not getting suckered into buying and paying for extras and add-ons I didn't want/need. You know, the old "It's only $5 a month for the paint sealant", "$3 a month for key insurance", etc.

What I wanted was the very base model 4X4, didn't need anything BUT that. And that's exactly what I got, plus no dealer add-ons. They REALLY tried to work me to get me to look at AC's, and DC's (even at the trade off of going to a 2WD). I told them "Fine, if you can get me into an AC with 4X4 for under $20K I'll do it". Then they tried to talk me into financing the truck, and paying it off quickly, to add to my credit rating (It was at 793 then) figuring they could get me to upgrade. I told "NO" because we were getting ready to buy a new house and didn't need the credit activity messing up our deal. Once they realized I had $20K to spend and not a penny more, they only mentioned the dealer add-on stuff, then dropped it.

On the other hand, I just bought my wife a 2014 VW Jetta TDI, financed it and got suckered for the paint and upholstery sealant and extended warranty. Oh well, I shouldn't need to buy another car or truck for a long time

2010 trd sport dclb, block heater, winter tires and rims, extended warranty, tax, oh and it's in canada. That's what we pay bro. If I had to do it again I probably would not buy the tacoma, it's overpriced.
I had to finance at the three year term because that was the only term offering 0.9 rate.

I would have paid cash but you know I just don't have 50k hanging around.

Just wrote the final check today. Took just under 21 months and it feels great to have all my vehicles paid off. Now to start working on the mortgage.

This thread inspired me to throw extra money on my truck payments when I can. I can't wait until she's paid off and all mine. All that extra monthly income will be nice. Plus I didn't get 0% or .9% financing like some of you lucky folks, I had a terrible break up with an ex and lost my condo. My credit used to be immaculate, it is now destroyed. Anyways, it felt good to throw an extra $400 last check towards the payments, it goes right towards principal like a mortgage. :D

not paid off but it's one of the only three bills I have. Truck, insurance, and internet/house phone. I own an iPhone but I only use it when it's hooked up to WiFi, no cable because I used the internet to watch just about any show or movie that exists. Housed by the government. This thread has made me also think about throwing some extra money towards the payment each month.
