I have the opportunity to go to Jerusalem again this Summer (didn't work out last year).

If anyone has been PM me any tips you may have. I'm not going for vacation so will be busy most of the time but will have about one day a week and a weekend here or there to check places out. This, for me, outside of my business there will become my first real photography trip abroad so I want to come back with some great photos. I am pretty big on being prepared and organized well in advance. I'm already half done preparing and I have months to go haha but if anyone has been let me know what you think would be good places to photograph or maybe any gear you whished you had. I'm really not wanting to bring my tripod. So that may stay . . . Thanks!

I don't really have any tips, I've never been over there. But I would say get one of those little tiny fold up tripods if you think you'll want it. It might not be strong enough to hold a dslr, though, and you could probably just use rocks or furniture instead.

I have one like this for travel: [IMG]
I haven't used it too much with my t2i, though, and never with a heavy lens because it just won't support that much weight.

Good call, one of those gorilla pods might be more practical than my full size tripod.

Wonder if Mamiya will still update the AF's to AFD's for free when you get a ZD back for it? That would be an awesome setup.

Have you seen the price of a digital back for a medium format camera?

Yes they're upwards of $18,000. Probably more now, the last time I check was about a year ago. Also depends on the model. Hasselblad digital back was like $22k

They are phenomenally expensive. No idea how you could possibly justify that cost unless you're shooting high end studio stuff.

Bingo ha what sucks is they're not more versatile for the cost. Good luck at high ISO haha although I believe it was hasselblad that announced they're going to do something like a 50mp CMOS sensor. Interesting.

    Kodak 126 "Hawkeye Instamatic II"

"Inherited" mom's Minolta 126 when she upgraded to a Kodak 110

Junior High I took photography and moved up to a Minolta Hi-Matic E

Went through the '80s shooting various point-and-shoot 35mm cameras that my wife brought home (the motorized models were cool), then around '89 or so got my first SLR and a few nice lenses... the Canon T60 (okay, it was a Cosina, but it was cheap and used the Canon mount). Got some awesome airshow shots with this one, and when Hale-Bopp stopped by, took it up to the desert loaded with 1600 and got a couple of really nice shots at 30 seconds.

That was my last film camera. Got my first digital, Sony Mavica, around '98 or '99.

The Mavica was a babe-magnet in Cabo at spring break. Since it shot on floppy disk, I could take a picture of someone and just give them the disk.
Drawback... only 10 shots per disk or less, so for a long vacation I had to take a case of floppies.

    Still thinking about this one:

The front ring on the lens was the ASA/ISO setting.
All it did was move a baffle behind the small lens at the top of the primary.
The baffle was wide open set to ASA 500, and at ASA 25 it only had a couple of pinholes.
Manual focus, manual wind (both forward and rewind).
The rear ring was the focusing ring. The camera operated in full-automatic mode... there was no aperture or shutter priority override.

It also lacked a Bulb or a "T" setting, so special effects such as an extended exposure on a highway had to be "faked" by setting the ASA to 25, using 200 or higher speed film, and a cable release.
