God I miss Arizona. Dunno if I'd want to have you as a neighbor though, smoking cigars, listening to the radio, drinking Jagermeister. I guess it all depends on how loud the radio is. The Jagermeister and cigars would be ok, the radio though . . . . .

No, that's the north shore. I'm on the S/E side of island. The traffic is bad enough when the waves get up to 30'. No way in hell I was gonna drive out there for that. I am less than 5 minutes from sandy beach tho. I used to body surf all the time when I was younger...

People do, but I heard the conditions were terrible for surfing. Really windy these past few weeks. local news slide show
you can see how choppy it was. Waves were making it into waimea bay parking lot. I bet those people living in those beachfront houses were crapping their pants :D

Just thought I'd comment a little here. All I know is my g-pa has a 2011 f-150 4x4 ecoboost. It's a crewcab pickup. This 4x4 halfton gets almost 5 more mpg then I do with my first gen prerunner and has about 150 more hp and 200 more torque? So while I love my taco if I was given a chance to get his truck, heck yeah I would take it

And whoever said the ecoboost is a gutless pig at the beginning of the thread has obviously never driven one. Want a gutless pig? Drive an old ford e-350 delivery van with a 7.3 lol

I couldn't agree with you more Jim. I have been driving for 45 years and owned 2 ford turds. In fact I have owned vehicles from the "big three" and they were all turds. Let this new generation be the test monkeys for the garbage they put out on the market. I have quit their "customer research and development team" also. If Ford wants to begin using aluminum, good luck finding a body shop that has the expensive equipment needed to repair it. That should make insurance quite high on these trucks.

This is the kind of thinking that is going to turn some people away from the new Ford trucks and it is some thing Ford is trying to combat they knew it was going to be a problem. I agree with OZ an off shore boat takes a lot more pounding everyday than the truck will see in years.

Haven't some manufacturers been using aluminum beds for a while now? My old Supercrew had plastic rear quarters. They were never a problem. The new F-150 is using a higher strength steel for the frame, while making it thinner wall. They're getting weight savings out of it as well.

If its within a few hundred pounds of a Tacoma it may compete with a tacoma on gas mileage. With a turbo V6, you're getting more truck. I'll never be brand loyal. Toyota may have better resale but that is just one thing to consider along with everything else. The idea that my Tacoma frame may rot out isn't exactly a great selling point for the truck overall. I have a salvage title so whatever happens long term, it's my problem not Toyota's. My dad has a Dodge 1 ton diesel that rides about twice as good as my Tacoma and could drag my truck behind it without even noticing a power change. Everyone has a different need. If you have a small garage, you'll stick with smaller size.

I think some of the Tacoma long life can be attributed to lower weight. If a full size can be lighter weight, maybe it will have fewer problems too.

    Yes

It's just more Fed govt intrusion into our liberty. Ford is only doing what it must to meet govt cafe mandates. And of course, Ford will spin it as part of a marketing campaign.
