That's the sun reflecting on the elements in the lens. Some more expensive lens with multi-coatings on them help with that. To answer your question no a UV won't help with that but can sometimes make it worse.

My 50mm with a UV filter is horrible with flares like that. If I take the filter off it improves the image. YMMV

 

Looks like you've got a reflection going on between a filter and the front element. The sun needs less exposure too. I should have added that if you see the reflection, you can try using your hand to block it or a lens hood (if you're not using one).

I like the scene and the colors.

 

I have like 50 I took this morning. A couple I took with the shutter speed at 1/1000 look good except for the reflection.

 

I'm correct that you're not using a filter, right?

I thought you mentioned that the other day.

wow im a dumbass. I just went and looked. ( I just bought this camera at xmas). I have a 58mm rocketfish UV on there. The salesguy put it on there when I bought it. I thought it was just a lens protector.

 

That's what I had on my 50mm that made it worse. I just wanted a filter to protect the lens when I bought it. I never use it when I'm actually taking pics. A better filter such as a B+W or Hoya that's coated would be what you want to use.

 

Awesome that for the advice.

 

A multi-coated filter is better than a single coated too.

I'm having photography withdraws. This weather here is keeping me from going out and shooting. Everything is covered in snow

 

Do some drills in the house. Annoy anyone around haha partly kidding on the second part.

Yup take snow pics. Opens up a whole new challenge with exposure and you get to learn how to deal with it. The snow will drive your meter crazy with all the white. Take the pics and figure out what you have to do to get it exposed correctly.
