After the much awaited arrival of my truck last friday i couldn't wait to start modding again. This is one of the easiest DIY mods imo, i couldn't be happier with the results! This head unit with the bluetooth music streaming made my aftermarket speakers 10x better.

I couldn't have done it without the help of these good people:

Danmcw45 - for giving me a good deal on the head unit to begin with
adio - for providing part numbers and adapters i would need, extremely helpful (all the parts pictures came from him!
chetweewax - for explaining and providing pictures for the bluebooth mic install in the overhead console

I figured i would compile the information i got from everyone so it will make your life a little bit easier if you decide to do it!

    Parts needed:
    Head unit (obviously )

Antenna adapater: http://www.crutchfield.ca/Toyota_Lex.../12040lx21.htm (even if it says it won't work your tacoma, it will!

Mic that plugs into that 28 pin conversion harness for bluetooth to work

    Tools needed:
    Beer (important one)
    Flathead screwdriver
Ratchet with 10mm socket (mounting bolts) and 8mm socket (bracket bolts)
Dremel (will be used later when i run my bluetooth mic to my overhead console, i just ran it under the ac controls temporarily until i can get my extension from radio shack online)

I was gonna do a full DIY topic but i didn't have time to take many pictures, this was the end result!

Thank you. Is this also navigation? Can you also add navigation through a similar process?

Not too sure on the nav units, I didn't bother with one since I use my cell for GPS anyways, the directions still come through my speakers. The steering wheel controls work for volume and changing songs, didn't expect to be able to change songs on the steering wheel!

Power and speaker plugs will hook right up to the HU. If you want to just keep it simple and don't want to deal with the whole fancy BT and stuff, then all you need is the antenna adapter. If any local radio is broadcasting in HD you'll catch it.

Thanks for the great write up! :D

Neat. I eventually want to do this with my '11.

Does new the radio fit 100% in older bezel? Ive seen some pictures of them not fitting very well and this keeps deterring me from spending the money on this....

Its the same, you would only need the antenna adapter unless you want to use the bluetooth, then you need the harness and bluetooth mic as well.

It fit in good, the only gap is under the head unit and you cant see it unless you are looking underneath it. Ill take a couple more pics in the light after work today

Awesome. I'd love to see some detailed pictures.

I wonder if you could swap the 12+ dash bezel over to make it fit 100%?

You can. There's many threads now on different radio swaps between the newer models and the older.
I have a 14 entune plus with navi non jbl in my 08 ;)

Jbls are a bit easier with the jbl entune unit but still need to rewire some things to make your amp work correctly with your radio

Hit up dibble9012 he did the swap into his 09 jbl with a 2012-13 jbl touchscreen system
