When you turn prisons into a corporate affair it behooves the politicians to keep them full. Now watch yourself, or you're going to the pokey!

Already did a little stint, aint looking to go back. And 100% agree, it aint about making society better, it's about filling the corporations pockets. Research the true reason behind SB-1070 here in AZ and you will see it had nothing to do with deporting Illegals and everything to do with filling three soon to be built prisons near the border.....

Did they ever change the sentencing on crack vs coke? A man with a couple rocks will do more time for a less fine, lower grade, less costly drug then one with the higher grade variant. The system is bullshit.

More to do with public opinion, lobbyists, local/state/federal politics/political correctness, and the ridiculous bureaucracy that goes along with it. Most non-violent crimes shouldn't be prison sentences IMO. Throw a potentially good apple in with a bunch of bad apples and expect it to come out even better than before?

That acts as a deterrent though. Some people don't have morals, but they do have pain receptors. That guy that's thinking about stealing your mom's credit card number might not care about your family, but cares about getting the ole' poop shoot stretched out by Big Bubba'.

Yeah this lady was crazy. She was controlling of him and wouldn't even let him talk hardly. I'm trying to remember the full story but they came from another company in Denver who COMPLETELY paid for their food, hotel, and hyperbaric services for months. She complained about some bogus stuff and then came to us (to try for more free stuff). They were nice enough to give us the heads up. Initially we were nice but she started complaining saying we were mistreating them (just like the last people) and that we had pornography hanging up everywhere (among other stuff) ...the front half of our business is a tanning salon, so of course we had lotion advertisements with women in bikinis. We looked at her Facebook which lead us to further prove she was lying about a bunch of stuff. Looked at the registries and found nothing. She started slandering us everywhere online so we got lawyers involved and she disappeared. Some people are crazy.

That's the theory, but I have seen little or no indication that it actually works.

Prior to/during a crime, this is I'm sure one of the last things on their mind. And that kind of thing doesn't happen as much as people like to think. Repercussions of their actions have very little (and often no part) to play in the motives and decisions behind whether or not to commit a crime.
