Howdy yall. Just got back from dropping my FRS off at the dealership for some service, and wound up deciding I needed a new taco. So, currently I'm haggling the price with the dealer on a '14 Magnetic-Grey DoubleCab SR5 PreRunner 2.7L Auto w/ Entune+ (for $23500 right now).

My only grief is that supposedly I cannot get the DoubleCab with the 5spd. Is this true? I hate autos with a holy passion of a thousand fiery suns going supernova.

I was able to talk myself out of needing 4x4, and getting the 2.7L instead of the 4.0L, but I need a DoubleCab, and REALLY don't want an auto. Is there any way to have my cake and eat it? Besides going with the 4.0L/6Spd (out of my budget, and the mpg difference kills me since I drive 30k/yr).

Well, good points both of y'all. Sure, I'd love another 4x4 but I figured it'd put it out of my budget. I dunno if an AccessCab, 4x4, 2.7L, with a 5spd can be had for $23k-ish, but I'm concerned I'll wish I got the DC (future little-ones, car seats and such). Because you're right Beav, the weight of the DC is probably comparable to the mpg loss by going with a 4x4.

Arg, too many choices, not enough monies... Lol. Any of y'all guys run around in an AC with a wife/gf and kid/dog and find yourself wishing you had gone with a DC?

    Decisions, decisions...

Exactly. Simply not enough torque to justify a marginal (at best) increase in MPG.

RPM=Fuel Consumption......I get only 30mpg in my Protege turning 4100rpm at 80mph on the highway. My BMW 740iL gets 29mpg (albeit slightly downhill from Laramie to Ft Collins) turning maybe 2300rpm for the same speed, from a motor 250% larger in displacement.

Bummer there isn't a nice little diesel option yet in the Tacoma. It would crush sales figures if it is ever offered.

I stuck to my guns and got a 6MT, but had to wait about six months on the new model year.

    I understand enjoying a MT, but 5sp in an SR5 2wd doesn't look viable...

Have a lot more fun in a 4wd with a 6 cyl, and you can (probably?) get a 6mt to boot, for only a 15-ish percent premium over that 4-banger 2wd you were looking at.

Lots of other (often better) options for the price in terms of truck/mpg/$$$ than a 4-banger DC 2wd toy, if what you're after is a 2wd with a stick and some cab space with a more fuel efficient engine...

Just my opinion. Your dollars, man, buy what makes you happy :)

4.0L 4x4 do it, otherwise you will regret it.

Well, I got them to price me out the AC 2.7L 4x4 5spd, and it's only $200 more than the PreRunner I was looking at. Only downside is they said it'll take 3 months to be built. Ahg, hate waiting.

a look at your profile shows that you say you have an automatic, he wants the 2.7L double cab with a 5spd.

    This.

I average 18.5 MPG out of my 2014 DCSB V6 4x4. My friend down the street gets 19 from his 2012 DCSB I4 PreRunner.
