As soon as I get a replacement bumper I plan to CL this bad boy but I don't feel like driving around sans bumper in the meantime. I sold my stock hood after I got my scooped hood painted and thrown on. I've been keeping my eyes peeled for a cheap Pyrite Mica or plate bumper but haven't found anything that suits my needs just yet. Soon as I do I'll be all over it and will then get what I can for the chrome one.

I agree. I wanted an el-cheapo little compressor to have around anyway since most of mine are larger so I had more than one reason to buy this one. If all I wanted for for inflates after trail runs I'd probably look into that. I like that I paid $40 and don't need to buy anything else to fill things up with it.

I was thinking about putting an air tank or 2 under the bed where my spare tire used to be then bolt on a plate to keep it protected, and hook them to a compressor. Anyone think of something like that yet?

I have both. I run a Viair 400p and a "TheSource" old school C02 tank/regulator. I used to just have C02 but have found that filling the tank multiple times through a busy 4x4 season got old. Also, when you run out, you are bumming air from a compressor guy anyways.

"TheSource" c02 system is no longer sold. They used a fixed regulator (150psi) that resisted freezing very well. I have used my system with outside air temperatures below -10°. Fill times were very quick, so quick I was done with all 4 tires before most compressors were done with the 1st tire. It moves enough air to seat a tire bead without much issue, though, I like to use fire to seat beads. I would not use it for air tools as it runs out too fast, though I could see breaking a really tough bolt/nut with it.

The Viair 400p is a nice portable compressor. It air up tires fast enough (considering everyone else is using a compressor). It comes with a nice bag to keep it clean and makes it easy to transport. I went with a portable because I didn't want it to be limited to one vehicle. I have 2 trucks I wheel so portable was important. It also is very useful for filling bike tires, toys, or air mattresses.

If I had to choose one, after having c02 1st, I would say do a decent compressor 1st. I just like the lower cost of the compressor. If you add a tank and hard mount the compressor it will make up for not having C02.

Thanks for the insight man! What size CO2 did you have when it kept running out?

10lbs setup. I was thinking of getting a 2nd bottle as a backup. Then I decided to get a compressor instead. Refills average $15-20 now that RedComet moved away. They also have to have your bottle for a couple of days. HighCountry does fills, along with Slee. Slee is just a long drive for me.

I also just had to have my Tank recertified and that took 2 weeks. Mine was overdue, they never checked the date when filling until I went to HighCountry. Highcountry besides not filling mine (overdue cert) said they will not fill Smittybuilt tanks, something about they have been known to explode because of false tank certifications. Could be a load of BS, I don't know. My tank was made in the USA so they didn't have any issues other then I let it expire.

So for those that know more about our Tacomas then I do, at what hight of front lift is it recommended to get a diff drop?

Yeah after having just purchased a Smittybilt CO2 setup I spoke to HC about a mount and they were bashing on the Smittybilt CO2 setup quite a bit. So I contacted Smittybilt corporate in CA. and spoke with one of their managers for a bit. They are selling a ton of them right now and have had very few come back due to faulty tank or customer dis-satisfaction. They run the tank on all of their race crews and support trucks and for what it is worth he had two of them for personal use. After about a 15 minute conversation with him I had a sense of comfort. They do come with a standard 1 year warranty and are about half the price of a PowerTank set up with similar equipment.

So I have kept mine. I still need to get it filled and mounted. Of course after reading the instructions a bit I have figured out that my ideal mount location will not work because it will keep the tank horizontal even during operation which their instructions say you should not do. Brian do you think that is because the liquid residue in the tank could get in the valve? It says to operate in an upright position. So now I am rethinking my mount locations.

C02 is liquefied in our tanks. Liquefication is how we get so much volume of "air" for our tires. This is why tank pressure is over 1500psi. Well, the regulators are not meant to handle the liquid form of c02 and they can be damaged. Because you don't want liquid in the regulator the bottle must be used only when vertical. You can mount it horizontal and just move it when you need it.

This is an on going debate... sounds like if you lift it and you have issues... do a diff drop. I have 3" and had mild vibs but I got the ECGS bearing fix. So no vibes here. If you do a diff drop skids may have issues too.

I am sure someone will chime in but I think lifting to 3" and deciding later is fine...

Big tires, big lift, Lots of stuff's.
It's case by case, some people need it some don't. I had a 3 inch on my second gen and it had no vibrations. Even to this day because I sold it to a friend and ride in drive it all the time.

I just did a lift and was looking at this too. If you search the forum here the answer is about 50% you have to do it, and 50% you should not do it.

I personally went with lift the truck, monitor performance and watch for drive vibrations or significant CV boot issues before installing it. I 'm not exactly at a full 3" lift, but close.

I have the diff drop installed on my truck and just had to get some washers to space out the AllPro IFS skid to clear everything. not a big deal at all, but i still have a slight vibe between 0-10mph that i cant seem to get rid of so ive dealt with it for the last 2 years.

Did you ever drive it without the diff drop? Maybe the vibes would go away if you removed the diff drop?

my vibes are coming from the carrier bearing i believe so the front diff drop uninstalled wouldnt help my problems.

I lifted it and installed the diff drop at the same time because i wanted my CV angles to straighten out a bit, and they did.
