Hi there I have a 2011 Toyota Tacoma and had a scytek Alarm/ remote start installed on it about a year. I've had problems with the unit since I had it installed. It works fine but when you start the car and its run the 15min prerun time when the unit turns off the lights on the truck do not turn off. The unit also has a feature on the remote that recognizes that if the trucks doesn't start it will retry to start it. The unit doesn't seem to recognizes when the truck is started and it will not try to restart itself. MY remote shows that the truck is running but it is not. I've been told by a friend that there are two different types of ignition cycles and he said that the remote start unit is digital and my truck in analog. Just trying to get peoples thoughts so I can see if I can fix it.

U leave ur light stalk in the on position?

If so, its gunna keep the lights on even once the engine is stopped until a door is opened...

I have no idea what ur saying about it starting or not starting again when its started already or not starting when its not restarted again.

Maybe its too early for me, or slight typos/autocorrect issues in ur post?

I have a solace remote starter on my 07, I have the same issue with the lights not shutting off after the 15 min run time but I don't have any issues with the truck not being able to restart if the first start fails.

In regards tot he lights not shutting off, I have often wondered if this is because I am not turning my headlights off? I normally just leave them turned all the time, when you shut off the truck normally, the headlight shut off after a second or two. when using the remote starter maybe the truck thinks that the key is still in position 2 because of the remote starter and therefore doesn't auto shut off the headlights?

if you leave the light stalk in the on position, the lights will stay on until the driver door is opened, even once the vehicle turns off

Generally they stay on until the drivers door opens dont they?

I've noticed this since I had a 1987 celica and noticed my Tacoma does the same exact thing as that celica did.

Sorry about that.. The remote start has a feature built into it that for example if its cold out and doesn't start on the first try it will retry to start the truck. For some reason my remote after hitting the start button shows that it has started when sometimes it has not. I asked the guys that put it in if they didn't hook a wire up or something and there answer was the different types of ignition system. I just don't know if I believe them and don't know enough to have the answer

    Now I see

Do u have the system set to read rpm before it shuts off the starter, or is it running the starter for a set time instead and HOPING the truck starts?

Yep. Not sure what the reasoning is for it on the Tacomas but if the light stalk is on the lights will stay on until the drivers door is open. I assume it is like how on other cars the stereo will stay on til you open a door but the Tacomas don't do that.

Only way to fix that is to just turn the light stalk off every time you get out of the vehicle.

depending on the model of your starter, you may be able to have it programmed to simulate opening the door when the remote start is turned off. Viper/Clifford/DEI remote start systems have the option to 'ping' the door pin immediately after the remote start off without triggering the alarm, and your remote start system may have the same option, you would just have to speak to your installer.

The problem with not detecting the truck is on when remote starting sounds like the ignition detection mode it's using isn't the right one; some of the remote start systems use a virtual tach mode, which can often show false positives on the remote start detection circuit. Again, your installer should be able to provide you with a better method of ignition detection.
