I did that to my truck over a year ago and only kept it for a few weeks.

 

Just took tint off front windows and dropped it off for inspection

 

New steering rack is installed. Alignment done this morning.

I'm looking at getting the Ultraguage, I found the OBDII connection under the hood, is there supposed to be one under the dash as well for a '96?

If not is the supplied cable long enough to reach under the hood?

 

It's under the dash above the gas pedal. Like right beside your cd player

Don't have a plasma cutter but

 

I don't know if the UltraGauge is worth it for the older trucks. I have an OBDII reader and there is a lot of info that is missing... Says I get 45mpg or some crap like that. Also reads the temps strange.

 

Needs to be calibrated. Read the owners manual. And what is "missing"

 

One more UG question, does anybody order any of the mounts or just the bracket only?
I was planning on mounting it like some of you guys did on the steering column. I got the memo about the velcro...
Any particular mounting option needed?

 

I don't have an ultragauge, I have an Amazon bluetooth reader. When I plug it into the newer work trucks it has all of the data. I have tire size and engine size entered, I just think that there is less data for the older trucks. I could be 100% wrong though, wouldn't be the first time.

 

I used Velcro. Specifically the 3m dual lock, same stuff used on easy pass transponders. Stiffer/ stronger than Velcro, lasts longer too. You can pick up a pack with 3 1x3" strips for like $3 at target.

 

Cool, are you using the optional Horizontal Surface Mount with the UG?

 

Thanks! I took another look at the column, looks like you guys are setting it in the molded"groove" on the top of the column right up against the instrument cluster...So I guess no need for any extra mounting brackets.

 

Just Velcro. I have a strip on the bottom of the back panel of the UG and the mating strip on the front of the cluster trim. The gauge basically sits between the steering column and cluster.

Probably just the obd reader you are using. My UG and kiwi Bluetooth obd reader thing with torque app both read all the parameters of the ecm.

 

Yeah it's definitely tighter. It would get pretty "darty" on the freeway with grooves in the road. Doesn't do that anymore. I was impressed with the quality of the Safari LTD steering rack so far. Looks to be a really good piece. Time will tell if it will hold up any better than other ones.
