Hello. '95 maual 4wd. 204k miles. Never had the clutch replaced. A sound is getting more present with some vibration, upon slowing down in gear, and even when out of gear and rolling to a stop. More present in the downshifting. When it is in gear and slowing, or downshifting, along with the normal engine reving back up, there is a presence of another type of reving sound seperate from the engine. When I clutch it or put into the nuetral, that sound is still present but then calms down to no sound. I can't put my finger on it. Vibe don't appear to be coming from a wheel bearing. The 4wd appears to work normal. I unlocked the hubs to try to pin point it and the sound is still present. It does not present itself when shifting up with throttle. The clutch otherwise does not slip. Any ideas? Would a throwout bearing do this? The growing vibration is what worries me and I have to drive this until figured out. Thx, DM

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Check driveshaft u-joints and center bearing for excessive play.

Have you checked your fan clutch? With the engine NOT running, give it a spin by hand. There should be some resistance. If it just spins easily, it's likely the problem. My 2000 Taco sounded like you describe................

You talking about the radiator fan? I'll look but doubt that'd be vibrating the entire truck to the wheels.
Interesting though. Be nice if that were all that was the matter....

dropped of at local tranny guy. he did a ck i didn't think about. he got it running around 40 and turned of ignition. my explained sound was still there. he is getting it in this morning on a lift to give a look underneath. he's betting a wheel bearing. he said with what he did yesterday, ruled out clutch, xmission, xfer case. I would still think it could be front differential...but I doubt it. I'll guess wheel bearing or transaxle. he did mention the inner part of (i think right) tire was worn more than outter. i know the alignment was good. that in itself would point to bearing. I'll report back soon. DM

It was verified (without taking anythng apart, that it is not my wheel bearing) Was only told there is no wobble and feels tight. I do not get any abnormal sound when turning. What I do get, is a sound like the engine is reving when applying throttle, perhaps going above 40 ish. Also when down shifting. When rolling out to a stop, in gear or not, it rolls to a stop with this vive, as though the tire vibrating. So its when there is possitive pressure being put on the drive train, or when rolling out to a stop. Almost a grinding sound, yet to a squeeling metal sound. Verified not the clutch, tranny or transfer case, or rear diff....by reputable xmission guy. No difference if in 4wd or not. You can run down the road and turn off truck and there is this slight vibe and this same reving type sound, in neutral or not. Verified alignment and tires in balance. If it is the bearing, thn it'd require weight on wheels, for the sound is not there on a lift, with wheels turning. It's like I'll need something to fall apart, in order to find it and not wanting to be stranded in order to find out. It has been God awful cold here so unsure if this sound will go away with it being warmer. Thx, DM
also I have manual hub locks for 4wd, and no mods ever done to truck)

Warmed to 40 and still the sound. My shop guy said he thought my '95 may have tapered bearings and if the case, they would have felt tight to his pulling around on the wheel but could still be pitted causing my issue. Odd the sound/vibe is not present at higher speeds (unless you mash the gas then the high hum sound) When rolling out to a coast, in gear or not as if bumping on those tiny bump strips you hit when you get near the edge of the road. Quite a vibration and felt in feet and slightly in steering wheel. Mystery.

Dorman (advance auto) Timen (autozone) national (o'reiley's)
Each 1 year warranty. Between $66-$72

Which one is better? I'm leaning towards my issue being this bearing.
Gotta start somewhere. Not going over $100 for a bearing.
    Thx for info. DM

Center bearing was shot and also found rear u-joint slightly binding in spots. Repaired both at home and no more noise/vibe/hum.
Went with Dorman center bearing and Moog u-joint...both at Advance Auto. Total under $80. DM
