One of the guys who used to be on here had modified the left compartment for his gun.... Idaholandho, I think it was. So it was concealed, yet easily accessable

I was just so excited when I pulled it out and found out that there was nothing behind it. I never thought the G19 would fit in there. A 26 or something of the likes would disappear almost.

I'm tempted to have a residence in AL just so i can get a CCW.
A LEO buddy said I probably wouldn't have much support trying to get the age dropped to 18 (in MS), even if we had to have x hours of training.

At first, I didn't see it in the top pic. I say well done, however on the other hand, if you need to have your gun that close and accessible, maybe you are in the wrong part of town and need to get out of there.

If you honestly believe it's that easy to avoid crime then you're in the wrong section. If it were that simple to choose not to be the victim of crime none of us would need firearms in the first place.

I recently finished a night shift job that when I first heard about it, my first reaction was a strong consideration to carry my gun with me to work. I would be working in an area I originally thought was going to be a the wrong side of Seattle for me to be at. Most of the jobs I have ever been on have signs that say something along the lines of no weapons allowed on site, such as knives and firearms. I was not about to leave my gun in my company van, because that van wouldn't take more than a minute to get into for somebody who knows what they are doing, and risk having it stolen. I am not opposed to people carrying, whether open or concealed. I do understand that in a situation where it is needed, the faster you can access and have it ready, the better. What it seems to come down to for some people (not saying this is you, but it is for one of my wife's friend's husband) carry all the time because they think that is the only thing to keep safe. It is like a crutch in a way to carry full time in my opinion, because you have a certain confidence in carrying, that you might miss certain cues that maybe would have changed your path to avoid a potential situation. I have heard though that luck favors those who come prepared.

This makes no sense. Since I started carrying my situational awareness has increased ten-fold as compared to before I carried. I have a 'certain confidence' as you put it because I'm a free man & I know that I won't have to beg anyone for my life when I walk out the door. That doesn't mean I don't avoid potentially bad situations if possible because with that kind of power comes a great deal of responsibility but the two aren't mutually exclusive. If carrying makes you less aware of your surroundings then that's something you need to work on but not everyone is like that. Hell, I don't even take my gun off when I get in my truck just in case I have to get out real fast or something unforeseen happens I don't want to be unarmed. I'm perfectly capable of defending myself w/o a firearm... making the conscious decision to do so however isn't a wise decision.

while you may be capable of handling yourself with or without a gun, not everybody is. my point in that is that the average person would likely start to rely on the gun as a crutch, and subsequently lose awareness.

as it pertains to knowledge of firearms and their laws, would you consider yourself below average, average, or above average? from what i have read of your posts on here, I see you as being above average in gun and gun law knowledge. this could also be because I am new to having a gun and I don't know all the rules and regulations.

I seriously doubt my wife will start leaving her gun home so she feels more 'aware' of what's going on around her w/o her 'crutch'. Some people WAY over analyze things. Not really sure where this is even going so we'll just agree to disagree I guess.

Just took this off my AR to put on an acog, it is a leupold mark at 1.5-4 power, what do y'all think about it going on a marlin 336 lever gun in 30-30, I'm thinking about making it a brush gun with a lower power scope like this

Is this an assumption on your part or personal experience / of a friend?

I can tell you the two things that increased my situational awareness the most in public, where riding a motorcycle (a real one, not a Hardley :D), and carrying a firearm.

I think I walked around the first year I carried questioning so much. "What would I do if this happened? How would I draw from my truck seat?, etc. A lot of those self imposed questions lead to the training and equipment I have purchased in the years since.

I haven't stopped doing this. Maybe not as much, and maybe not as consciously as before.

I think the reason this happens is because when things are outside our control, we put blinders on. If we can't control it or make it better, best to just accept it. The more you peel that away, the more conscious you are of taking back that control and not leaving things to chance.

So I got curious and emailed DuPont regarding using their dry teflon lube on firearms and this is their response:

Okay, so I finally took my rifle back from Worth-A-Shot here in MD, look elsewhere. It's been two months since I dropped it off, and thier gunsmith has done absolutely nothing but make excuses, never called once even though he said he would, and then told me that this was all because he didn't have a drill press.... I'm not a happy camper... Any other good gunsmiths in MD?

I ended up inheriting a couple double barrel shotguns from my wife's grandfather. He passed away so they went to me since I'm the only one in the family with a license :) Turns out, they're both from the 1940's and in great condition.
