ideas? smooth rubber waterproofer for tonneau cover

Recently purchased and had installed an ARE LSII fiberglass tonneau cover. Previous one on Dodge Dakota was virtually waterproof. The Tacoma model lets in water along the leading edge next to the cab due to spaces in hinge and chintzy velcro attached foam pieces on the corners.

Would like to install (PLP glue and small stainless nuts and bolts) a thin 'rubber' or like material 70" by 5" minimum along the leading edge on the outside of the cover, to repel water at all places. Had thought of using garage door gasket or rubber baseboard material, but while would look half decent, aren't in size required.

Can anyone suggest an 'off the shelf' (i.e. building supply store, marine product etc.) strip of material that might work? Thanks for thinking!

My Leer has a premolded rubber gasket that they stapled to my bed (not the best for easy removal but no leaks!). It is about as thick as a tire inner tube. I would check out Home Depot for some rubber stripping that goes with membrane type roofing material.

 

I've seen such stripping / gasket material at camper / RV stores.

 

The staples hold velcro to the rubber and the other side of the velcro is stuck to your truck.
