Interested in this as well, if there is to be a February GB. Just wondering what the difference between Amber DRLs and the Amber/Amber Switchbacks? I like the factory coloring, just want them to be brighter LEDs. Not sure which would best suit the application.

The Amber DRLs is a Hi/low setup. Meaning that when the DRLs are on, the bulb is on but a lower brightness (stock), when the turn signal is switched on, the bulb 'blinks' brighter (hi).

The Amber/Amber switchback is a Hi/Hi setup. Meaning that the bulb is always at the hi setting and when the turn signal is switched on, the bulb 'blinks' on and off.

I'm thinking you might want to go the switchback route.

I'd like to order a set, can you explain the instillation process? I take it it's not plug and play.

 

It is plug and at except dimmer wire. Take a look back at some of pages. Lots of repeat info. Plus some videos in the website

 

I put some info starting on post #48 for the guys..., you assemble the kit on the kitchen table, unplug your DTRL harness, install base adapter and bulb, plug into DTRL harness, connect second plug, which has the white dimmer wire and splice,solder, or TTap into the positive of the HL wire..Thats it..

I have found that running the DTRL's at 50% when HL's are on is the best setup..if not, it's blinding to oncoming traffic at night...YOU WILL GET FLASHED AT CONSTANTLY......

 

Thanks. Was just reading that post. Sorry for the questions, trying to figure out how this works compared to stock... I want the Amber/Amber DTRL. The stock units turn off when the HL are turned on. If i plug and play without the dimmer will they turn off or stay on at full brightness (unlike stock)?

 

The stocks should dim.

 

I have a '13, not sure if the wiring setup is different on older models....my DTRL's come on all three settings..parking lights..DRL light..and Headlight...if the DTRL's are wired to dim, they will come on with the headlights at 50% of the LED output...If you have a Blacked out reflector bowl, you may not need to dim the DTRL's due to the fact the blackened bowls will kill some of the light performance....The DTRL's will stay on 100% if not wired to dim.....

A bit of information that I have gleaned from the time I have been working on LED conversions. This is specific to many vehicles, but does include the Toyota Tacoma.

Standard switchback LED's do not work on the Tacoma as designed. You have to get the 3157 CK type 2 LED switchback bulbs to work properly because for whatever reason Toyota, in their infinite wisdom, have their 3157 sockets wired differently than most other manufacturers. This is from one of the distributors that I have contacted. Now take into account this is information from THEM, so don't take this as gospel truth here.

"If you own any of the following Toyota vehicles like the Camry, RAV4, 03-08 Corolla, Highlander and all Tundras/Tacomas, don’t use the standard type 3157 bulbs. Please selects the CK type 3157 bulbs."
