Intermittent Wiper Switch update

I just installed the intermittent wiper switch with the P/N:

84652-04141 on my 2014 Tacoma, Regular Cab, 2.7L, 4x4. It's perfect, works as discussed and looks like it belongs.

 

Thanks for the info!! No delay has been a real pain! You only have to change this switch? Same relay and everything? Plug and play? WOW.

 

I think this was the first mod I completed. I was new to Toyota and did not understand how to take the steering column shroud off. I thought I was going to break the plastic.

 

If you read the brochure CLOSELY you will see they have themselves somewhat protected there (at least in the Canadian brochure). It states that the brochure may not be accurate and to check the website for the latest updates. My brochure did not match my truck, but the website did. Good for you for gettting a few hundred dollars back, as Toyota did not have to do that IF they're website was up to date.

 

I just ordered the switch. I see two Phillips screws behind the steering wheel. Does the plastic column cover snap off? Is that all?

 

To anyone purchasing a new or used Tacoma, I recommend you make this mod part of the purchase negotiation. As part of my recent 2014 purchase, I added the requirement that they swap stems to give me the intermittents. Works great!

As an aside, in this day and age, I am a bit surprised Toyota doesn't just include it as part of the standard package as they seem to have done with cruise and AC.

Agreed. You can spend $13k on a new Yaris that has a 3-speed wiper standard. But all base Tacos, $19K+ come with only a 2-speed wiper. At the very least, offer the Yaris's 3-speed switch (it fits just fine). The fixed int would be better than nothing. And don't get me started about the lack of a cargo light, locking fuel door or front mudguards (for the base).

 

ZEROPILOT: yeah it just snaps off once the screws are out.
If you pull the streering column adjuster and drop the streering wheel it makes it a little easier to mess with. I used a butter knife to gentry pry the front open. A putty knife might work too. Something you can get wedged in there a bit and not muck up the plastic. I got a flashlight and looked for the back clips... I was able to barely reach in with my fingers and release them.
I seem to remember another thread on here where someone took some pictures.

Actually changing the switch is the easiest part. It took me twice as long to get it snapped back together. Had a hard time lining up the little alignment pegs at the front so it would snap together clean.

Now if it would just rain, I would actually get to use them.

I picked up my new Tacoma last week. Intermittent wipers were a must! This was my first mod so far. I should have had the dealer include as part of purchase but forgot with all the excitement.
I picked up the intermittent wiper switch from a local wrecker for $60. Toyota people want $240 for this locally with 4 different part #'s to choose from.

Warning to all: First I tried a wiper switch out of a 2011 trd and the thing gave me 3 slow constant wiper speeds and one fast. I couldn't even turn the thing off! Next I tried one out of a 2007 trd and the thing works perfect.

Really happy with the buy but beware they are not all the same.

Took me about ten minutes. Easy job but definitely finicky with all the flimsy plastic to take apart without damaging.

 

The switch kind of snaps in, cassette style. No bolts, just plastic clips. I used the part number ending in 10. It operates in the normal fashion and has like four intermittent speeds. The part number ending in 43, I hear, operates in reverse. That is, it switches backwards. Still will work.

"FINALLY" I got around to installing the delay wiper stalk on my 2012. This was easy as pie and, as stated, did not take me ore that 10 minutes. the hardest part is just getting the top and bottom covers apart and back in and together. IT just takes a little fidgeting. I've had my new stalk for a while just never got to putting it in. Works Great ! Let it Rain!!! (Also put in a Curt hitch and wiring harness so I can finally go looking for a used pontoon boat).

I just did my 2013 regular cab 4x4. Like most of the others have posted, its pretty easy. My only issue was getting the little tab pushed in far enough to release the old unit. I couldn't get a screwdriver to go in at the right angle. I finally used an allen key (bent at a 90 degree angle) to depress the tab and popped it loose.

84652-02710 and it works great. I swear, with the old unit, on the high speed setting I thought the blades were going to fly off the arm! Absolutely worth the $100 bucks.

 

I just did my 2013 DCSB this afternoon. Took less than 10 minutes. Literally, plug and play. There are two different choices for the switch -02610 and -02710. The only difference is whether it has arrows to indicated the different settings or letters (-IMP, etc). the -02710 is for 2014 and on. I went with the -02610 as it matches the not intermittent version that came stock on my Taco and I kinda just liked the look better. Really simple to do.

 

Ridiculous that you spend this much on a vehicle to find it lacks common features available since the 1980's.

 

Yes but how else would they get you to buy the SR5...

 

They could put a locking rear diff in it. I would've shelled out the extra $1500 for that.

 

Just bought a 2015 DCSB 4x4, and didn't notice that it didn't have intermittent wipers. Can anyone here confirm if any of the previous mentioned switches will work with this model?
