Yeah I don't see the point unless you got a damn good deal on a front one and want to link it to get better travel than the front IFS, but even then why not wait for a 60... The 2nd gen IFS is pretty stout and the Toyota rear is pretty much a Dana 44 in terms of strength.

For the cost of a built 44 (which you need under a 2nd gen unless you wanna break in the driveway) you can still have a d60 that is twice as strong almost stock.

D44 even if it was free would not go under my 2nd gen tacoma lol

Some people "including myself" just don't like the look of full size axles under a tacoma body/frame.

Yep. A double cab long bed 2nd gen is pretty much a 1st gen Tundra.

i know you dont like rock crawling but also remember youre going tall like me so you want the width. and youre going to compensate with spacers.
So basically youre trying to build your truck like i did my old one.

^^^This haha. If you keep your 1st gen light enough you'll probably be alright. But like I said above, on a 2nd gen the IFS is probably stepping on the toes of being as strong a 44 (though probably not a fully built one). There are several IFS 2nd gens running around on 37's with minimal issues.

Hell I have 33's and I think I pretty much have to bind the tire to break a CV (which I have done once). I can lock both lockers and spin the hell out of my tires up rocks and not break one.

These two vids show it a little, but none really caught the times I just laid into it.

I'm pretty light; single cab, 3rz, bobbed bed, and gonna run 36s. I think I'll be ok for now. Depending on what I break, I'll see about going to tons.

Yeah if you are just going with 36's that should be fine. Hell you'd probably be sacrificing too much clearance going to tons on 36's.

I watched a guy blow up a u-joint on a SAC'd Ranger on 33's... no locker... and a really simple obstacle that I have seen a stock samari on 28's do...

He used a dana 30 to SAC:facepalm: Although after they checked it out I guess there was some install error on the u-joint that caused it to break:notsure:

    Dont like the look...

    Dont like the look

you are going through the process of converting your rig to solid axle, and you are concerned how a full sized axle LOOKS under the truck?

    Interesting order of priorities.

I've got 44's under my sammi, but with that said I wouldn put them under a 2nd gen taco. If I was going to go through the effort I might as well go D60

And for the reason of weight. It's weight and power really, I've seen some trucks with stupid amounts of power not break smaller axles but they are a motor some frame and axles and tires that's about it. But on the other hand ive seen trucks that are heavy with little motors and gobs of gearing break all the time..

Perhaps you're too small minded. What you said has no relevance to my first comment. Obviously the full width is more capable. But that's not what we are talking about.
    I much prefer this look:

So you are going for look vs capability
